Texas' Danzell Fortson wins 400 meters at USATF Junior Olympics
OMAHA, Neb. -- Texas' Danzell Fortson claimed his second career USATF National Junior Olympics 400-meter title on Sunday in Omaha, Neb. Fortson used a 46.36 to defeat the field by over a second. The Ft. Worth native also won the event in the summer of 2006 with a time of 47.52.
As a freshman at Texas, Fortson earned All-America honors as the anchor of the 4x400-meter relay, which finished seventh at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He also ran the 400-meter leg on UT's distance medley relay that won the NCAA Indoor Championship and set a world record of 9:25.97 in February at the Tyson Invitational.
Individually, Fortson earned All-Big 12 honors during the indoor and outdoor seasons. Fortson finished fourth indoors with a time of 47.42 and eighth outdoors in 47.78.
Earlier this summer, Fortson finished 11th at the U.S. Junior Outdoor Track and Field Championships with a time of 47.57.
