EUGENE, Ore. -- The 2008 NCAA Cross Country Championships will be televised live on the big screen at Hayward Field, Oregon Associate Athletic Director Vin Lananna announced Wednesday, and the Oregon Athletic Department is inviting the Eugene-Springfield community to join members of the Ducks’ track and field teams for this free live viewing party that will start at 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 24.

Gates will open at 8:30 a.m., and fans are welcome to sit in either the East or West Grandstand. The athletic department is asking that fans bring one can of food to donate to Food for Lane County.

The 2008 Championships are being televised live from Terre Haute, Ind., by CBS College Sports, and Oregon is being allowed to the show the event free on the campus cable system. The women’s race begins at 9 a.m., while the men’s race is slated for 9:45 a.m.

“Fans of the sport will have an opportunity to watch two close races featuring several very good teams from across the country,” said Lananna. “The NCAA Cross Country Championships is a fantastic event and we’re inviting the whole community to watch it at Hayward Field. I know our student-athletes would benefit from knowing that the community is supporting them on Monday.”
