Oregon's Alex Kosinski on track to help Ducks at nationals
When Alex Kosinski was 10 years old, her parents enrolled her in a junior lifeguard program on the beach in Santa Cruz, Calif.
The idea was to teach youngsters about water safety.
One day, the sun-tanned group of about 75 boys and girls, ranging in age from 9 to 11, took part in a mile race.
Kosinski’s father, Jim, recalls watching the horde of tiny barefoot runners, clad in their swimsuits, take off down the beach, thinking his daughter would probably finish somewhere in the middle of the group.
