James Madison's sports cuts may be heard by U.S. Supreme Court

HARRISONBURG - The sports advocacy group seeking to reinstate the 10 Olympic teams cut at James Madison University is taking its case all the way to the top.

Attorneys for Equity In Athletics will file a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court today to hear their case for temporary reinstatement of the teams during what has already been a lengthy litigation process.

For the last year and a half, EIA - a group made up of 450 athletes, coaches, parents and fans, half of whom are affiliated with JMU - has tried to legally compel the university to restore the teams. JMU announced the cuts in September 2006 and finalized the action the following July.

Track athletes this is what our sport needs, but the sad part is that it still may not be enough. We now see that @ a Uni like JMU will take the money and give it to other sports***JMU football team since the funding has been stopped has 1st Won a national championship in football 2nd Ranked #1 most of the 1AA football season and 3rd Mens baseball has made it to the College World Series Tournament.*** Dont put any trust in to the school itself, stay loyal with the school based on the coach and the program, because these Universites do not care at all.

Iona will no longer have football
New Rochelle, NY (Sports Network) - Iona College has announced that it is terminating its football program, effective immediately, on Thursday.

"It is with a heavy heart and careful deliberations that we have come to this extremely difficult decision," said director of athletics Patrick Lyons. "The dissolution of the MAAC Football League after the 2007 season and the lack of equitable opponents in Division I FCS football was the main factor in the decision."

Iona was a founding member of the MAAC Football League in 1993 and played in the conference until it was disbanded after the 2007 season.

The Gaels posted a record of 59-94 over the 15 seasons and won the MAAC championship in 1993 and 2007.
