South Florida looks to host major international track & field meet
LAUDERHILL - Optimistic about boosting the local economy, some South Floridians want to host an annual world-class track event at Central Broward Regional Park.
Athletes and coaches would travel from other states, the Caribbean and Central America to square off in the "Florida Caribbean Games," a weeklong tournament at Broward County's $70 million park near State Road 7 and Sunrise Boulevard.
But it's up in the air whether the games will begin. Organizers must raise money and government support before they can kick off. The projected date is in May 2010.
