The great divide: Kenyan teen Pamela Jelimo

Now that she's grabbed their attention, Pamela Jelimo is starting to worry what people think.

Until this spring, the 18-year-old Kenyan was a modestly successful but undistinguished sprinter. Now, after posting two of the three fastest 800-meter times by any woman in 11 years, she's a favorite to win Olympic middle distance gold.

Her performances have been commanding, all the more remarkable for the fact that she only converted to the half-mile race in April.

She's going to win the women's 800m gold medal and probably set a new WR mark in the process. I saw her last race on ESPN and it wasn't even funny she left the the second place finisher in the dust by four full seconds she made it look like a perverbial walk in the park winning the race in 1:54.9
