U.S. sprinter Lauryn Williams’ father, David, dies at 55

Rochester’s David Williams, who fought through illness to see daughter Lauryn win an Olympic medal, has died. He was 55.

A father of seven, Williams died Sunday following a decades-long battle with leukemia and was awaiting a kidney transplant. Despite health issues, Williams traveled to Athens for the 2004 Olympics Lauryn, a Rochester High School graduate and world-class sprinter, win a silver medal in the 100 meters.
