While Marion Jones weeps on Oprah, state of track a crying shame

30 October 2008 at 08:26 - 8 comments - link

Marion Jones appeared on Oprah Winfrey's television show Wednesday. It was a tearful interview, her first after serving time in the slammer for lying about steroid use.

She went to a minimum-security prison in Fort Worth, Texas, for six months because she lied to federal investigators about using steroids. Some say the cover-up was worse than the crime. That's false. By further tainting a drug-plagued sport that needed her to be the symbol of excellence and honor, she almost ruined track and field.

Just admit that you knowingly took the stuff please, so we can move on. If you play your cards right you may can help our STRUGGLING women jumpers in big compeitions. Conte recently said that he injected you with the stuff, come on who do you think you fooling? Why would go to a hotel room to meet with a chemist if perform enhancers were not involved with your visit in the first place? Once again who do you think you are fooling? I guess you can try to fool a bunch of soccer moms on Oprah, but not us track and field fans. With stuff like this family the Jamaican women will continue to dominate the sprints and leave American women behind. GO OUT AND VOTE PLEASE BRING YOUR PATIENCE!!!

"Jamaican women will continue to dominate??"

To the first person that posted to this blog. On the Jamaicans: It's not like they've been the picture perfect symbols of "natural" athletes!! The very same Jamaican women that you're speaking of could very well be using drugs just like anybody else who's gotten caught or will get caught in the near future so come on..... Let's be real!! Some of the best jamaican athletes are training or have trained under some of the most drug-affiliated coaches and programs just like any other American that has tested positive for steroids, etc. I think the most "appropriate" comment would be to say "Any" athlete, American, Jamaican, or anybody else should watch closely for the "True, Natural Athletes" to shine and hope and pray that they continue to pass these tests that they should be failing!! And for all of these "older, veteran" athletes that have tested positive in recent years and trying to make a comeback, just go home and start making babies because we don't "Respect" You!!!!!! Isn't this what it's all about??? I mean look at Marion. Can she even go check her mailbox without putting a bag over her head? Was it all worth it? Uhhhhh...... No!

More On "Dominating"

To dominate is a very strong word. One Olympic Game wouldn't qualify for dominance. American sprinters have been dominating for years. Now That's "Dominating."

Jamaicans clean???!!!!

The rumor in Europe during the summer was that Conte's lab has moved to Jamaica... I am sure you have heard the same story on this side of the pond too...

state of track a crying shame?NO THOSE ATHLETES ARE

08:42, 31 October 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
I have been involved in this Track life since I have been 12 yrs old and to me track is not a crying shame. These athletes are, they are in a sport that is based on hard work and time but they want it all right now. The athletes who are doing it are bad from the start. This is happening all over the world and Americans are no different. We need to teach the younger athletes that PROPER DIET, HARDWORK, AND TIME are the keys to being good in track and field. And Parents should not let their children look up to anyone else other than them, because as we see athletes are human

Dominance

If any of you followed the international circuit you woudl see which nation athlete's are winnning the sprint races from the 100 to 400, not limited to the hurdle race and the 800 even. Its no surprise that this would happen to American sprinters. You can't keep running like you did in HS and college and think it would be natural in your 20's to perform the same. Jamaican are retain their human resources to stay or go back home and train under strict supervisiona and daily discipline, much like the NCAA track programs. That's why American athletes are flying during the school year. Think about how many American "track athletes" do the same after their graduation or when they simply can't compete for the school anymore. More than less than half become international elite, mostly they become ok and lane fillers. Look at X Carter, he can't even out run the local police let alone win a simple 200 meter foot race. In college he couldn't be stopped. Now look at Walter Dix, his jr year at FSU he was flying; his sr year he appeared to be holding back for something almost like he lost his mojo, but he was holding back for the 2008 games and reached his peak when it counted, not in the NCAA champs but for Olympic finals.

Well I hope our American women can step and show some heart. The 100m final in Beijing was a POSSIBLE sign of things to come. Kids in this country are sidetrack, whereas kids in Jamaica are focused on track. Look at results of the 2008 Boys and Girls Champs in Kingston, the 13 year old girls(7th graders) in Jamaica would beat a lot of our 11th and 12th graders in this country, not our best 11th and 12th graders. With low 12 sec. 100m times just check it out. Their women (Jamaica) were one baton exchange away from sweeping the sprint events in Beijing. In the United States we have a long way to go to fixing track and field to put us back where we belong being the best in the world.
