SAN BERNARDINO – It’s was a great day to be a Wildcat! The Chico State cross country teams made it so with dominating wins at the CCAA Cross Country Championship hosted by Cal State San Bernardino. The men’s squad earned it seven-straight CCAA titles, while the women collected their fifth title in the last seven attempts.

Scott Bauhs, who has won all three races he’s entered this fall, led a 1-2-3 finish for the Wildcats. Bauhs (25:23.4) narrowly edged out teammate Brendan Scanlon (25:23.8) for the individual title. Angle Marquez (25:27.8) was four seconds behind in third place. Beau Rogers led a group of Wildcats, including Jordan Fairley, Alan Campos and Manny Mejia to the sixth-eighth place spots, respectively. Just one runner later, two more Wildcats crossed the line, Tim Cannon in 10th and Thomas Whitcomb in 11th. In all, nine of the 10 Wildcat runners finished in the top 11. The top 15 earn All-CCAA honors.

The Wildcats scored 17 points to beat their nearest competition, UC San Diego (72 points) by 55 points. Cal Poly Pomona (84 points) took third, followed by Humboldt State (105 points) Cal State Stanislaus (113 points), San Francisco State (157 points) and Cal State Monterey Bay (199 points).

In the women’s race, the results were similar with a cluster of six Wildcats occupying the fourth through ninth-place spots. Tori Tyler (22:03.3) led the parade with her fourth-place finish and was followed just a second behind by Kara Lubieniecki, Alia Gray in sixth, Shannon McVannel seventh, Stephanie Consiglio eighth, and Shannon Rich ninth.  Kayla Silva, Colleen Joyce, and Jessica Nelson took the 14th-16th spots.

All ten competing Chico State runners finished in the top 20, with the top 15 earning All-CCAA honors.

The Wildcats put up a total of 30 points to easily defeat their toughest competition Cal State L.A. (52 points). UC San Diego (76 points), Cal Poly Pomona (112 points) and Humboldt State (147 points) round out the top five of the 11 competing teams.

yeah chico!! Total domination! It will be interesting to see how both teams perform at regionals and nationals! Its suprising to see the women's squad do so well this year after losing a lot of seniors last year.
