Women's individual defending champ favored, but Stanford's title run likely to end

Come the afternoon of November 24 in Terre Haute, Ind., there is likely to be a three-peat women's cross country champion. And just as likely that another three-peat championship run will end.

Texas Tech's Sally Kipyego could stake her claim as the greatest female NCAA cross country champ with her third straight individual title at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course. If the Kenya-native does pull it off, she will become the first three-time champ. Kipyego is already just one of five to win two titles. If Kipyego successfully defends her title, it will be against a familiar foe. The runner-up in both of Kipyego's championship runs has been Colorado's Jenny Barringer. She returns for one more shot at Kipyego. And last year's third-place finisher, Susan Kuijken of Florida State, also returns.
