Abilene Christian hires new head cross country coach

Just four days before the first meet of the 2008 season, the Abilene Christian University men's and women's cross country teams have a new head coach.

ACU head track and field coach Don D. Hood announced Tuesday that Sam Burroughs has been chosen to lead the cross country program.

Burroughs spent the past three years as head cross country coach at Iona College, a Division I school in New Rochelle, N.Y. During his tenure, Iona won three consecutive men's and women's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships, with the men's team pushing its streak of conference titles to 17. The Gaels also placed in the top four at the NCAA Championships each year, finishing second in 2007.
