Los Angeles - Forget the Dark Knight and other such cinematic nonsense.

The smash entertainment hit of the summer is the Olympics Games which have turned millions of Americans into armchair sports fans and given broadcaster NBC an incredible lead over its rivals in the race for ratings glory.

The ratings of an average of 30 million viewers are described as the largest in decades, since ratings began, media reports said.

I personally thought the coverage sucked overall.

NBC TRACK AND FIELD COVERAGE SUCKS

06:45, 21 August 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
I totally agree that the NBC track coverage was the worst I have seen in years. Imagine they did not even bring the men's 100m live the premier event in track and field. The track coverage sucked, no wonder why the Americans had such a hard time at the Bird's Nest

NBC Track coverage

I agree.........this is the worst coverage I have ever seen in all my life. It's a shame NBC was allowed to cut out the most exciting event in the Olyympics. I believe NBC just doesn't like Track and Field. Shame on you NBC, shame on you!

It's as if they were covering the Super Bowl and only showed the last 30 seconds of each quarter. Americans deserve real coverage of the Olympics, not just a bunch of hype and commercials.

Olympic coverage

I personally hate the coverage of the games, because of the late hour for premiere events,I can't sit and enjoy them with my 7 year old son. He loves track but I will not allow him to stay up until 10:30pm when most of the good events take place. I hope Chicago wins the 2016 bid so that Americans can see real time history.

Oh man, the coverage really hit rock bottom. Lets talk about it shall we. Why NBC...Why??? Is Track not that important.....(rhetorical of course!, you don't deserve the chance to answer).

NBC Coverage

NBC has succeeded in allowing itself to be labeled a 'broadcasting joke' in the world of sports coverage.
My condolences to those who missed the opportunity of witnessing family and friends in their 'one moment in time'. NBC could do better. I care NOT to see and hear Bob Costas or his partners. In our daily lives, we get more than our desired appetite of words and opinions. I suggest you try something different NBC. The Olympics are for the athletes and fans. I'm done......no more NBC for me. HOORAY for the internet,......BOO NBC.

Who Do Voodoo

10:55, 21 August 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
After droping the baton, Lauryn Williams thinks that there must be a Voodoo spell on the USA. Is this the best thing she could come up with for the lack of execution. Come on, give me a break.

Our time to shine (Jamaica big up)

11:05, 21 August 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
It was only a matter of time before the Jamaicans would rise to the top. All these years the Americans have been cheating the world with their undetectable
drugs. Now that the playing field is level, the creme de la creme rises to the top.

F----! NBC!

11:06, 21 August 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
Does anyone here have CBC? If you do you are lucky and you got to see all of the events(inlcuding heats without americans) live. What is so hard about that. Why are we watching races that took place 13 hours before it is shown on TV? By the time we see them, it's already been spoiled!

At least the Canadian channel got it right.

Jamaicas Rise to the top

03:47, 22 August 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
Okay Jamaica you have dominated the sprints in this Olympics but there is no need to take swipes at the USA. The USA still has twice as many medals as Jamaica and the U.S. men are dominating if you look past Usain Bolt. Most of your women have had the benefit of receiving U.S. coaching so don't hate on the USA. As it relates to the comment about the U.S. cheaters, most of them were trained by a Jamaican (Trevor Graham). Also remember the great Merlene Ottey was busted in1999 for steroids but as a courtesey she was allowed to compete in 2000. The IOC nor the IAAf would have done that for an American. Enjoy your moment in the sprints because I don't se any other track medals.

NBC & The JAMAICANS..........

08:45, 22 August 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
NBC:
Well forget a CBC & NBC – the very BEST coverage is being delivered by the BBC & BBCsports Channels!!! I spent last 8-days in Europe (Berlin & London) and let me tell you all & NBC Broadcasters something – TRACK & FIELD was show DAILY as it took place LIVE and then REbroadcasted in Prime Time!! It was just AWESOME.

The JAMAICANS:
There is an article floating around on LATIMES.com that the Conte Drug-lord dude has “suggested” that the Jamaicans are running on the NEW Improved Version of CLEAR!

Further more it wouldn’t seem hard to believe or not so obvious that they are cheating - if certain JAMAICAN Runners didn’t DRASTICALLY DROP there PB Times by .5 seconds faster in short sprints, or 1. second faster in long sprints -- from the end of last season or mid-season til now – its just INSANE!!

However, Jamaicans doesn’t want to hear the topic of “CLEAR”!! Well it’s CLEAR something just ain’t right! Perhaps they should’ve Run just Fast ENOUGH to Win and we wouldn’t be having these blog/discussions!

NBC Coverage

It's a different world. There should be several channels showing all of the Olympic events, all of the time. No one network should have the rights to something as massive and popular as the Olympics.

I agree....Horrible Coverage!

09:17, 22 August 2008 .. Posted by Al in Detroit
Track coverage was horrible!!! I have never seen such a thing. I was forced to get all of my updates online 12 hours before the race actually aired on TV. How can you have the mens 100 meter final (The most talked about clash of the Olympics) actually taking place at the birds nest and you are playing basketball on tv? I love basketball as much as the next person but it wasn't a GOLD medal match and the mens 100 meter WAS!! I am frustrated!

Post race Interviews

09:46, 22 August 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
I am not sure that NBC cares about the positive side of US Track & Field. The Jerk that does the post race interviews needs to be fired. He could not possibley ask questions that are any more inappropriate than ones he does. He should be embarrassed about the fact that we went 1-2-3 in 400m, and the only questions he could come up with were the ones about Jeremy and Clyde Hart. I am not a huge Warnier fan, but I felt his reaction to the question was very appropriate. LOOK FOR SOMETHING POSITIVE. It might be hard with the fact that the team has performed so poorly, but find something.

Bob Costas has a lot of nerve

10:51, 22 August 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
NBC plops Bob Costas in a chair every four years, tells him who is good in track & field, then he goes on the air like he is an expert broadcaster. I guarantee 90 days ago he never hear of Bolt, or even some the better, yet currently, yet not hyper-famous names like Lo Lo Jones and others were.

Costas is just a band wagon ding dong that shows up every four years after prognosticing every move of every boring baseball, basketball and football game to the point of retarded hyper-scrutiny, while the likes of Usain Bolt, and Bryan Clay are making headlines at the same time, yet he rufuses to report their successes until Olympic time.

They should make a new rule that you can only host the Olympics if you if you announce a minimum of 3 major Olympic events per year on the network. Maybe then we would get experts like Frank Zarnowski (the decathlon expert) sitting in Costas' chair that would bring back the stories, the Up Close and Personal segments that Jim Mckay and the real professionals used to do that brought the Olympics to life and MADE the Olympics what they are today.

If Costas was an evening news anchor who's responsibilty was to bring us the world news, I would liken his ignoring track & field and other Olympic sports for entire four year segments (until of course the cameras roll for during the Olympic games) to ignoring historic events like the fall of the Berlin Wall, the Teanamin Square Uprising, and the Oklahoma City Bombing. We would not stand for getting reports on those events only once every four years from our news anchors, why should Costas and the other sports reporters be allowed to ignore track & field for four years and then suddenly report them once the Olympics rolls around?

Costas and NBC owe their paychecks and income to Jim McKay and the production crews of the 70's and 80's that MADE the Olympics what they are today by digging and scrapping, filming and producing all of the human interest stories that went along with each person that participated in the games back then. Today, NBC does none of that, and the whole coverage is a giant bore. Hey honey, let's watch beach volleyball, bmx bike racing, softball, long distance swimming, all with the long traditional of a whopping 8 years in this country. Let's throw in some more crap next Olympics, I say Banjo playing is a skill, why not that? I bring this up because NBC spent more time covering bmx bike racing and beach volleyball, events that have a 10 year history and are competed in nationally by about 300 people and skipped the 100 meters in primetime and were competted in national by ten's of thousands of people. (not to mention that event has ben in the Olympics for over 100 years) Who is setting what is aired when at NBC, the producer of some crap sitcom like Friends or Mork from Ork?

The decision to put the 100 meter finals on at 11:30 at night when we knew the results at 1pm the same day via the internet is absurd. The Canadian station had the race on three hours before NBC. In fact, I say fire Costas and hire that Canadian Host, he knows track and reports it often, even in the non-olympic years.

Costas should sleep with Jim McKays jockstrap for the next four years and maybe via osmosis he will learn what being what the greatest sports announcer really is. Costas does not even deserve to be mentioned in the same breath as Jim McKay.

Jamaican Athletes

12:13, 22 August 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
It is amazing that everyone is saying that the Jamaican athletes are not good tht they have to cheat. If I am not mistaken, many athletes have come to this country and have assisted many major Universities in winning the NCAA Championships and that seems to be okay, but now that they are running for their country we have a problem. Come on people be fair.

Also, the idea that USAIN BOLT is a cheat and that he was not good until now; come on ignorant people this young man has been representing his country on the World Junior Level and the Senior levels for a long time. Be fair! Be positive an give the youngman and his country a chance to shine.

We all know that the US is a great country and a powerhouse when it comes to Track and Field, but in recent years we have also found out that they did it illegally which tarnished the wonderful reputation set by Jesse Owens, Wilma Rudolph and many more. All i am saying is "those who live in glass houses should not throw stones."

CONGRATULATIONS Jamaica! You are a proud people and we are all proud of you.

I agree, the coverage sucked. Hardly anything we wanted to watch, was worth staying up for. Just record on the DVR, play back then delete it. Hopefully 2012 will be much better.

Congrats

Oh, and congrats to the Jamaicans. I'm American born and raised, with Trini grandparents, but the Jamaicans put it down! Congrats Peace and One Love!
