When it comes to Usain Bolt, money talks, Carl Lewis won't

21 August 2008 at 01:18 - 7 comments - link

BEIJING (AP) It wasn't that Carl Lewis was sad to see one of his defining achievements finally equaled.

It wasn't as if the enormity of the event left him speechless.

Get this: One of the greatest sprinters ever refused to talk about The Talk of the Beijing Olympic track meet - Usain Bolt - all because Bolt wears the wrong shoes.

"He's a Puma guy. I really can't say anything," Lewis said Thursday, politely declining an interview when approached at the Beijing Silk Market by an Associated Press reporter.

Lewis has a contract with Nike.

But c'mon, Carl, sponsorships aside, you must have some thoughts about Bolt's two world records, the fact that he became the first person to win gold medals in the Olympic 100 and 200 since you did in 1984.

Right?

Lewis simply circled his hand above his head, sort of wishing he could talk but saying he couldn't.

"I said something the other day and the Nike people saw it and they weren't happy," Lewis said.

Anything you'd like to say about the race?

"I'm glad we got the silver and bronze," he said.

Americans Shawn Crawford and Walter Dix actually finished fourth and fifth but were moved up in the standings when the runners ahead of them were disqualified.

Take one quick guess what kind of shoes they wear.

Nike =Communism

So now the shoe companies restrict the freedom of speech. Goes well with the Nike persona. Since they make all their shoes in a communist country, they feel like they can run their company the same way

I agree completely anybody that has ever even been in the Nike hospitaliity rooms at a major meet knows that they are all about who wins the most medals, putting down the other shoe companies, publicly ignoring the great performances of any great athletes that dont run in their shoes. Hell, I understand it business.... but if it's just business dont preport yourselves to be the great "saviors of the sport" and you only sponsor track athletes because Bowerman wasone of your "founding fathers" and all this propaganda. Heck... NIKE... let Carl Speak, you may get some pub out of it. Michael Johnson is speaking and he is a NIKE athlete.

Carl is a @$$#O!&

We all know that Carl Lewis thinks he is gods gift to track and no one is better. I am glad for BOLT because if Carl Was in this era right now, he would be getting his butt handed to him like everyone else. HE was supposed to break the LJ record but because of his attitude, he didnt and he watch Mike Powell get it. I can do with out Carl Lewis in T&F

My Home Boy...

The problem is CARL has to be politically correct and can't speak his HONEST oppinion on the REAL subject floating around in Beijing - but I'll say it for him:

The JAMAICANS are NOT CLEAN & CLEAR!
Everyone know about the article on LATIMES.com that the Conte Drug-lord dude has “suggested” that the Jamaicans are running DIRTY!

Thats why its so obvious w/certain JAMAICAN Runners drastically DROPPING there PB Times by .5 seconds or 1. second faster all of a sudden and had not really showed that type of promise prior to doing so!!

Lets Just DEAL with it JAMAICANS, you all are going to get BUSTED!! B/c once Carl is on it, trust me you it wont go to sleep.

JAMAICANS ARE CLEAN

For the first time the Americans are running clean and the Jamaicans are taking them down. The JAMAICANS are simply the BEST!!!

Carl took steroids until he started looking like a fucking MONKEY, if BALCO had supplied drugs or knew anything about jamaicans on drugs they wouldn't only talk they would prove it. Thank you TREVOR GRAHAM for busting those dam drug cheats and levelling the playing field.

Carle Lewis has finally spoken

He is raising doubts about Bolt. Is that what he got approval to say?
