Steve Hooker in men's pole vault final; Brad Waker out
AUSTRALIAN medal hope Steve Hooker last night stared down Olympic elimination but luckily he went the other way.
Having twice failed to clear the bar at 5.65m, a tracksuited Steve Hooker regained control of his Olympic destiny on his third attempt - clearing the bar to make it through to tonight's final.
In a controversial qualifying round that finished in a deserted stadium just before midnight (2am AEST), America's gold medal favourite Brad Walker bit the dust.
