New head cross country coach Jason Dunn.

Edrick Floreal, the Franklin P. Johnson Director of Track & Field is pleased to announce the hiring of Virginia's Jason Dunn to the Stanford Cross Country/Track & Field staff. "Jason is a young, committed, and accomplished men's and women's coach who embodies the academic and athletic excellence we hold here at Stanford," said Floreal, "we are confident that Jason is the perfect match for Stanford and we are very excited about this new chapter in the program."

Last year's Men's ACC Cross Country Coach of the year, Dunn quickly built a nationally recognized men's and women's cross country and distance program at Virginia. Dunn was the first cross country coach in Virginia history to coach both the men's and women's cross country teams to the NCAA Championships in the same year.

On the track, Dunn has recruited and coached his athletes to 41 All-ACC performances, 18 NCAA qualifying performances, and six All-American honors. At the 2006 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, Dunn's athletes earned 78 points in 5 events from the 800m to the 10k, one of the most dominating men's and women's distance team performances in conference history. During this season, Dunn earned the honor of NCAA East Region Men's Assistant Coach of the Year.

Dunn's commitment to academics is equally impressive. Both the men's and the women's cross country squads have been named All-Academic teams in each of the last five years and his athletes have achieved awarded All-Academic status in cross country and track on twenty-two occasions.

Dunn graduated from William and Mary in 1996 and began his coaching career at his alma mater directly after graduating. Before going to Virginia, Dunn was hired as an assistant coach for Arizona State's men's and women's cross country and track teams where he also received his M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction with a physical education emphasis in 1999.
