THE RUN DOWN

Monday: Speed day. 6 flying 40's followed by plyo's and lifting.

Tuesday: 4*600's. This was a long, slow workout. We ran the 600's in about 2 minutes with 1-minute recovery.

Wednesday: 8*200's with 2 minutes rest between reps. This was a pace-cut workout. Started at 33 and dropped to 25. Sounds easy, but it was by no means a walk in the park. Lifted weights afterwards.

Thursday: Recovery. Light jog for 1300 meters.

Friday: Light speed. 3*30 meter falling starts followed by 3*30 block starts.

Saturday: First race of the year.

Sunday: Took the day off. Did some homework and watched the Vikings vs. Packers.

ROUND HERE

The x-mas break was nice and relaxing. Karolien and I went up to Cold Spring to see my family. After visiting my family on Christmas Day we then flew over to Belgium to see her family. We spent a week in Belgium just touring around and visiting relatives. All in all, it was a good break.

When I got home from Belgium I checked my voicemail and learned I had a whopping 18 messages! One of those voicemail messages was from Cargill offering me a job after I graduate. I've been interviewing around and got two other job offers, but this Cargill position was what I was after. So come June 1 I'll be the newest Administrative Manager at Cargill. That rocks! Now I don't have to worry about looking for a job anymore. I can just focus on running. And class too I guess.

As far as the workouts went this week they went well. I got a little sore from not having done anything over the break. Oh well. I have 5 months to get over that soreness. I think I'll manage. Saint Thomas has J-Term so about half the team takes class and practices in the month of January, and the other half goes home or travels. Coach doesn't require anyone on the team to be at practice in January. He really understands if you wanna travel or just not start up yet this soon. Me and 6 other track guys are taking intro to theater. Oh yes, the senior slack has fully set in.

THE MEET

This week's meet was at the Northwest Open on the campus of the University of Minnesota. The U of M is literally a 2-minute drive from Saint Thomas. It was nice running in front of a home crowd for the first meet of the year. My Dad, Cheryl, Grandma Glad, and Cousin Alex were all there.

My races went about as expected. My first race was the 60. I'm not really a short sprinter, so I was just happy to make it to finals. I think I ran 7.12 or something. I'm not real sure on that. It wasn't great. I also ran the 200. Coach wanted to get a time on me in this race so we can better gauge our training. I crossed the line in 22.45. A time like that won't light the world on fire, but it is a place to start.

Up next week is the Alumni Meet that we host. I'm not sure the race I'll be running there. If I do run the meet it'll be something easy. Maybe a 55 and that would be it.

LEADER OF THE PACK

This installment of my Leader of the Pack Award goes to none other than Joe Thomas. Snacks, as he likes to be called, went provo in the high jump. He jumped 6'8''. The man should have cleared 7'0'' but we all know that'll come when it counts the most. Nice job Snacks! Keep it up buddy!!
