Journals : Carson Glad - University of Saint Thomas

Its been a while since my last update to my journal, so I figured now would be a fine time to put in an update since I just ran my first outdoor meet.

As far as life goes around here...I got news that Cargill (my future employer) is sending me to Mentone, Indiana. I did a Google search on Mentone and I couldn't find much. All I know about Mentone is it has a population of less than 1,000. So, basically this is going to be a big adjustment for me. Going from the Twin Cities to Small Town USA should be interesting. The bright side about moving to Mentone is that it will help advance my career quickly and I wont be there too long. Just a year or two tops.

School has been boring has heck. I don't even do homework anymore. For the past month I have just been going through the motions by showing to all my classes. (I hope no one from Cargill is reading this because they might not like to hear I'm not doing homework! But to all the good folks at Cargill...you don't need to worry about me not doing homework because I like to call myself naturally smart.)

THE MEET

This week's meet was at the Duke Invitational. The team flew to the meet, which was cool. We stayed at a pretty nice hotel too. But the best thing about traveling far away to track meets like this one at Duke is the per diem! I made a cool 20 bucks just for running a track meet.

So the meet went so so for me. We threw together a 4*4 and that didn't go over so well at all. We basically stunk up the place. I'm the main reason why we did so badly. I totally screwed up the hand-off and then decided not to give it my all while running. Stupid me.

As far as my individual events went, I ran the 200 and was suppose to run the 400 both on the second day of competition. I don't have anything to complain about my 200. It wasn't the time I would have liked to ran, but it was still a good race overall. The reason why I didn't run the 400 was because my left shoulder and neck that I hurt earlier in the week on Monday started to bother me really bad. But, I'll be good to go for next week's competition.

Next week we are going to St. John's University for a small conference meet. It'll feel real funny for me to run at St. John's because I grew up only about 10 minutes away from SJU, but I have never ran even a single meet there.

LEADER OF THE PACK

This installment of my Leader of the Pack Award goes to none other than Dave Diercks. Dave throws the javelin on the team and did pretty well for himself. He came close to PR'ing and ended up taking 8th place overall in the meet. Nice job man!
