ROUND HERE
Life is going good up in the cold and snowy land of Minnesota. Next week is
spring break! I'm pumped for a little r & r. Seeing this will be my last
spring break I was hoping to do something spectacular, but it looks like
I'll be staying home doing a little training and a whole lotta nothing.
THE MEET
For those of you who don't know, this year's D-III Nationals where are
Illinois Wesleyan in Bloomington, Ill. I thought the track was pretty slow
and the turns seemed a little sharper then I'd like. I think the surface
was made out of tartan.
I was fortunate enough to run the 400 open and the 4*400. Unfortunately, I
was sick as hell the 3 days leading up to the meet, so I was feeling not the
100% I would have liked to have been. It would have been nice to have been
health and be able to run my fastest time of the year in the 400 at
Nationals, but oh well...at least I had the opportunity to run in prelims.
Our 4*400 ran well. Since I wasn't 100% I sadly became the stereotypical
relay rider. I just battled to hold my own when I got the baton and let the
other 3 take control. When all the dust settled from the track the UST
4*400 team repeated as National runner-ups. Believe me, there is nothing
worse than finishing 2nd two years in a row. But losing to a time like
LaCrosse is okay. Those guys are classy.
LEADER OF THE PACK
It is hard to recognize any one individual effort from our team at Nats
because everyone preformed so well. Cassidy ran the best 4*400 split he has
ever ran indoors and Peaches was stellar too, J Schwietz (who will forever
now be known as Shaggy) dipped in the relay, and Fusco held his own in the
800. But what was most impressive was Snacks in the high jump. Snacks
hadn't really been jumping too hot all year, but at the big dance he managed
to put in all together. Snacks pulled out a huge jump and ended up taking
2nd in his last collegiate competition. Nice job buddy! Where are all
going to miss you on the team!
SPEICIAL SHOOTOUTS
First, I'd like to thank Mr. Tali-ban for bestowing J Schwietz's new
nickname unto him, Shaggy. Second, I'd like to congratulate Brigit Burns
for winning the 400 and thank her for putting up with Shaggy at the awards
banquet. Sorry Brigit, my friend Shaggy isn't Tom Cruse, although people
have been known to mistake him for Rico Suave. Also, Net is the craziest
SOB around. Running the 400 and 55 in back to back races was nuts! But
what makes this guy completely insane was the fact that he followed that up
by running lead off in the 4*4! Last but not least, I'd like to say
congrats to Nate Olson. And good job to everyone else I failed to mention
here. I'll see you all at outdoor Nationals!
