1. You opened the cross country season last week at home during the
Arkansas Duels with a winning time of 19:29 in the four-mile race. How did
you feel for this early in the season and when will you compete next?
I feel very happy where I’m at right now. I will compete at Missouri
this weekend.
2. After redshirting the entire 2007 track & field season due to a stress
fracture in your foot, how does it feel to compete once again with the rest
of your teammates? Will you use that extra season next year?
I’m happy to be involved with my team again. It’s not fun being injured,
you don’t feel like you are really a part of things, and people are different.
It is nice to be able to go running with the team. I will be using my two
seasons.
3. Originally from Melbourne, Australia, how comfortable has the atmosphere
at Arkansas been for you during your career so far?
In Melbourne when I was younger, I remember competing at Olympic Park in
the city, and there would be 20,000 people who would come and watch. People
are sports mad at home. I would say that our home indoor meets are
comparable to the same sort of atmosphere.
4. As a national qualifier and four-time All-SEC in cross country, what are
your goals and expectations for your senior season?
I want to do better than I did last year. Being healthy is the most
important thing.
5. Now that you've had a race under your belt, what will your base training
consist of over the next few weeks as you prepare for the bigger meets on
the schedule?
We start our true workouts now in order to peak at the SEC and NCAA Championships.
6. Is there a distance that you favor?
I prefer the longer distances. I plan on running marathons someday.
7. Looking back at your collegiate career, what accomplishments stand out
in your mind so far that you'll never forget?
Good and bad races stand out. The Tyson Indoor Invite in 2006 when I ran 13:47
and the New York indoor mile in 2006 when I ran 4:05 but nearly got pushed off
the track. My first SEC cross country race freshman year as a Razorback
where I came in second. I like the Chile Pepper 10k.
8. Arkansas is ranked as the top team in the South Central Region this
week. As a team, what is the focus all the way to the national meet at
Indiana State?
The focus for our team is to win.
9. Head coach John McDonnell seems to know a thing or two about coaching
and national titles. How has he helped you in terms of reaching your goals
and development as a runner?
Coach motivates me to do my best. He is always challenging me in my
training, and that’s a good thing.
10. What's been the most challenging workout you've had to endure at
Arkansas?
The mile down, or mile repeats.
11. How do you like to spend your free time when you're away from practice?
I love to spend time with my fiancé Londa. I like to travel. I enjoyed
going home to see my family this summer. I like to watch movies, cook, and
listen to music. I’m heavily involved in Chaser’s War.
