100 meter American Record holder Tyson Gay did not finish his race during the 200 meter quarterfinals on Saturday, July 5 during the U.S. Olympic Team Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

Gay, who drew lane 7, immedialy grabbed his left hamstring after falling to the ground 50 meters into the race.  A strong favorite for the 200 meter title at the U.S. Trials, Gay was carted off the field and was unable to walk under his own power.

It was later learned that Gay suffered a severe cramp to his left hamstring, according to the medical team in Eugene.

In a press release by USA Track & Field, Tyson Gay's agent, Mark Wetmore, reports that Gay suffered a severe cramp in his left hamstring with no apparent damage beyond the cramp.

Gay is back at his hotel, resting with his physiotherapist. Wetmore reports that Gay felt some tightness in the hamstring while warming up. "I'm very disappointed," Gay said.

wow. USA just lost all hope of winning gold in any sprinting events in the Olympics. Jamaica 08 FOR THE WIN.

the Olympics aren't for another month, he'll be fine to run the 100 in a few weeks, proper rehab and the man is back up and running. Besides, it may be a blessing in disguise for him to have to only run the 100, and there's still hope in the 200 in the form of Xavier Carter, Walter Dix, and Wallace Spearmon, three of the 5 fastest all time...

Tyson Gay's unfortunate circumstances are blessing in disguise. With a good recovery, he will be able to focus solely on the 100m. I see a legit 9.6s on the Olympic horizon. Though I would have loved to see him get down to 19.5s in teh 200m.

1 month might not be enough the competition is no walk in the part.

he's not injured

What is the problem. He didn't pull anything, nothing is torn, he had a cramp. Period. He is fine and will be running workouts soon enough. Cramp, not torn/pulled hamstring. Easy.

And Powell will choke anyway ;)

Powell is not the only one to worry about

I'm not a Tyson Gay fan, but I feel disappointed for him as the Olympics won't be until another 4 years......anyways, someone says that Powell is going to choke anyways.....but Powell is not the only person Tyson should be worried about.......you'll figure it out
