Men's 100m: Semi-Final - Aug 16 8:05 AM ET, Final - Aug 16 10:30 AM ET

Who to watch: Usain Bolt (JAM), Asafa Powell (JAM), Tyson Gay (USA), Walter Dix (USA), Richard Thompson (TRI)

Outlook: Bolt, the world-record holder, looked the best among all the competitors with his effortless time of 9.92 in the quarterfinals. Powell also looked smooth clocking 10.02 in a seperate heat along with Gay at 10.09. Thompson, who is coming off his final season at LSU, crossed the line in 9.99 to edge Gay in his heat. Dix will need to get out of the blocks faster in order to get into medal contention after looking slow during his first two rounds. The favorite right now is clearly Bolt who looks to be in world-record form once again. All must compete first in the semi-final heats, scheduled for 8:05 AM ET on Saturday.

Women's Shot Put: Qualifying - Aug 15 9:10 PM ET, Final - Aug 16 9:10 AM ET

Who to watch: Nadzeya Ostapchuk (BLR), Natallia Mikhnevich (BLR), Valerie Vili (NZL)

Outlook: U.S. athletes Jillian Camarena, Kristin Heaston and Michelle Carter will have a tough play on their hands in order to medal in this event. Camerena, who is coming off surgery earlier this season, looks to get back to form with her personal-best mark of 19.26m. Nadzeya Ostapchuk and Natallia Mikhnevich will look to take the crown from Vili who is the defending world champion in the event. Qualification, much like the men's shot put on day 1, will be in the morning while the finals will be contested at night Beijing time.

Women's Heptathlon: Three events remaining

Who to watch: Hyleas Fountain (USA), Nataliya Dobrynska (UKR), Anna Bogdanova (RUS), Kelly Sotherton (GBR)

Outlook: Fountain, the world-leader and U.S. Trials Champion, heads into the final day as the leader thanks to a big personal-best of 23.21 in the 200 meters. With a score of 4,060 points after the first day, Fountain is in great shape to take gold. Others on her shoulders include Nataliya Dobrynska (UKR) who had a solid day one performance with personal-bests in three of the four events. Kelly Sotherton (GBR), Anna Bogdanova (RUS) and Lyudmyla Blonska (UKR) will all look for medals with three events remaining.

Other non-final events:

Opening and some semi-final rounds will include the men's 3,000m steeplechase, women's pole vault, men's discus, women's 100m, women's 400m, men's long jump and the men's 400m hurdles.
