Razorback Invitational

The first day of the Razorback Invitational took place on Friday night at the Randal Tyson Track Complex in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Three NCAA automatic marks were met and all came from host Arkansas.

Tyson Gay, who spent his first two collegiate seasons at Barton Community College, sped to 20.73 in the 200 meters which is the fastest in the country to date.

Another former Barton CC star, Veronica Campbell, opened up her 2004 season in grand fashion with her 23.28 clocking in the same event which also leads the country. Download the video. (Quicktime, 2.51mb)

Arkansas wasn't finished as the men's distance medley relay got their bid to compete at home in March for the title with their winning time of 9:30.14.

Leonard Hilton Memorial

The Bill Yeoman Field House in Houston was host to the annual Leonard Hilton Memorial on Friday as Texas turned in quite a few outstanding performances.

Leading the way for the Longhorns was Michelle Carter who competed in her first collegiate meet of her career with a toss of 55-11.25 in the shot put which earned her an NCAA automatic bid to the NCAA Indoor Championships. Raasin McIntosh clocked 8.10 to win the 60 meter hurdles which also was an automatic qualifying mark.

Sophomore All-American Sanya Richards got her automatic qualifying time of 52.92 to win the 400 meters. She already has her mark in the 60 meters set earlier this season as well.

Miami's Tabia Charles soared to a mark of 42-10.25 in the triple jump which claimed the event. Ally Daum and Beth Hinshaw-Spearman of Rice both cleared 13-03.50 in the pole vault.

Air Force Invitational

Jessica Fox of Wyoming turned in an NCAA automatic qualifying performance in the 400 meters with her time of 52.88 at the Air Force Invitational on Saturday evening. Her teammate in the weight throw, Andrea Batt, just missed the auto mark as she tossed the 20lb weight 64-10.50.

Over in the women's high jump, Lindsey Metcalf of BYU cleared 6-00.50 which met the NCAA automatic standard. Rodrigo Mendes of BYU just missed going auto in the triple jump with his leap of 53-03.75.

Niklas Arrhenius, a freshman at BYU, got his NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the shot put with his toss of 62-06.50. Arrhenius is the National High School discus record holder as well.

Two athletes met the NCAA automatic mark in the heptathlon as Paul Speer of Wichita State scored 5555 points and Curtis Pugsley of BYU scored 5552.

SEC Invitational

Collegiate records are never safe at Florida. The week after lady Gator Kim Barrett set the collegiate record in the weight throw, teammate Candice Scott extended it even more with her toss of 74-10.50/22.82m at the SEC Invitational on Sunday afternoon.

Scott, who also owns the collegiate record in the outdoor hammer throw, saw her teammate Rachel Longfors set an NCAA automatic mark of 65-03.50 as well.

Kim Barrett, who saw teammate Candice Scott break her own record in the weight throw, provided a spark in the shot put setting a new fieldhouse record of 55-07 which also is an NCAA automatic qualifying bid.

Former Gator Erin Gilreath set the fieldhouse, American and world records in the weight throw with her winning mark of 78-7.00/23.95m.

Over in the 800 meters, Tennessee's Nicole Cook got her auto bid out of the way with her winning time of 2:05.60. Rodney Martin of South Carolina earned an auto bid in the 200 meters with his winning time of 21.07.

The Florida men clocked the nation's leading time in the 4x400 meter relay as the team of Sekou Clarke, Reggie Witherspoon, Rickey Harris and Kerron Clement came through the line in 3:09.42.

Central Collegiate Championships

Look out for the fastest man in the country right now. His name is Johnie Drake and the Central Michigan junior clocked 6.54 seconds to win the 60 meters at the Central Collegiate Championships on Friday hosted by Eastern Michigan.

Drake's previous best was 6.75 seconds and placed 4th in the event at the 2003 Mid-American Conference Champs with a time of 6.86. For his efforts, Drake was named the Trackshark Athlete of the Week along with Florida's Candice Scott who set a new collegiate standard in the weight throw.

Red Raider Classic

Jeremy Wariner of Baylor captured the 400 meter title with an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 45.83 to go with it at the Red Raider Classic hosted by Texas Tech. Teammate Darold Williamson ran 46.34 for second which met the provisional standard.

Clemson Invitational

Amber Campbell of Coastal Carolina came up big in the weight throw with her mark of 21.31 meters which met the NCAA automatic standard. Georgia's Jenny Dahlgren also met the same standard in the weight throw with her mark of 20.57 meters.

Laura Gerraughty of North Carolina showed that the defending champion is back for more with her NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 17.00 meters in the shot put. Clemson's Gisele Oliveira stayed consistent in the triple jump as her mark of 13.35 meters also met the auto standard.

Red Simmons Invitational

Nick Willis of Michigan opened up his collegiate season at home with a time of 8:00.28 to win the 3,000 meter run.

Wisconsin Invitational

Freshman Chris Solinsky of Wisconsin ran an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 4:02.76 in the mile run.

Ohio State Triangular

Dan Taylor of Ohio State could not improve on his mark set earlier in the season, but still met the auto mark in the shot put with his toss of 19.83 meters. The same story was told over in the weight throw as Taylor threw 22.49 meters.

Ohio State held strong in the women's weight throw as Amarachi Ukabam tossed the 20lb weight 20.08 meters which improved on her automatic mark set earlier this season.

Purdue's Keith McBride tossed the 35lb weight 22.04 meters which met the auto standard as well.

Holiday Inn Invitational

Nebraska was host to the annual Holiday Inn Invitational as one of the highlights was Steve Mullings of Barton Community College who won the 200 meters in 21.05 on the 200 meter track.

Becky Breisch of Nebraska earned an automatic bid in the shot put with her mark of 54-08. Her teammate, Ineta Radevica, came close to the auto standard in the triple jump with her leap of 43-07.

Minnesota Classic

Karl Erickson of Minnesota won the shot put with his mark of 60-8.50 at home on Saturday. Erickson's teammate, Lynden Reder, broke the school record in the weight throw with his toss of 67-2.25.

Purple Tiger Invitational

LSU All-American Nicole Toney turned in an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 43-8.50 in the triple jump at the Purple Tiger Invitational.

Missouri Triangular

The 15th Annual Missouri-Kansas-Kansas State Triangular took place on Friday night as well with the Wildcats of Kansas State taking both titles as the men scored 125.50 while the women managed 148.

Leading the way for the winning Wildcats was senior Morgan High who won the high jump with her NCAA automatic clearance of 6-00.75.
