Auburn's Gabor Mate claimed the discus and placed second in the hammer throw at Ohio State |
Despite a false start in the 200 meter prelims by Muna Lee and
Lolo Jones tripping over the last hurdle which cost her to not score,
the lady Tigers from LSU still managed to come away with the team
title with 95 points at the first ever NCAA Division I Mid-East
Regional Championships hosted by Ohio State.
It was a close battle for second as Michigan edged out Big Ten
rival Indiana, 62 to 60. It was no surprise to see Arkansas claim
the men's team title while scoring 73 points, as Auburn was second
with 68 and LSU was third with 57.50.
The weather played a crucial role in all events on Saturday as
strong winds and cold temperatures forced the men's pole vault to
be contested indoors at the French Fieldhouse. All athletes had
to adjust accordingly to the bad weather on the final day of action.

Felicien of Illinois winning the 100-meter hurdles final with a
wind-aided time of 12.89 (+6.2). Felicien ran 12.70 in the prelims

wind (5.2) as he won the men's 100 with a time of 10.02.

their time of 43.53. Auburn was a close second in 43.55.
The SEC schools once again dominated the 400 meters as the top
five men's spots all hailed from the powerhouse conference. Sanjay
Ayre of Auburn claimed the one-lap event in 45.99 seconds.

800 meters and fought through a tough backstretch with a major headwind
in 1:49.72.

McWilliams of Mississippi State, who earlier won the 1500 meters,
as the junior clocked 2:02.89.
