North Carolina Central All-Comers
North Carolina's Laura Gerraughty broke her own all-time ACC record
in the shot put with a throw of 60-7 3/4 to win the North Carolina
Central University All-Comers
Meet Thursday afternoon in Durham.
Gerraughty previously set the ACC record at the Penn Relays two
weeks ago with a toss of 60-6 and claimed the indoor title in the
event last March.
Teammate Alice Schmidt beat a field of 13 in the 800 meters, winning
in a season and personal-best of time 2:03.40. Schmidt won the NCAA
outdoor title at 800 meters last year in a time of 2:04.73. In the
men's high jump, Jesse Williams of NC State took the event with
his clearance of 7-1.
Texas A&M All-Comers
Luke Marrs of Texas A&M provided highlights in the javelin
with his mark of 241-02 at the Texas
A&M All-Comers meet on Thursday. Teammate Josh Ralston became
the fifth Aggie to break the 200-foot barrier in the discus with
a personal best throw of 201-7.
Other highlights included heavy wind (4.0) in the men's 110 meter
hurdles as Chris Pinnock of Texas A&M won the event in 13.57.
The wind was strong again in the women's 200 meters (4.9) as Ebonie
Floyd of Houston claimed the event in 23.06. Allison Beckford of
Rice was second with her time of 23.28.
Abilene Christian Open
There were several noteable performances from the Abilene
Christian Open on Thursday. Leading the way were several Texas
Tech athletes as Albert Booker won the 400 meters in 45.72. 800
meter specialist Jonathan Johnson is coming back from his injury
indoors while placing second in the quarter-mile with his time of
46.20.
Another Red Raider had an impressive toss in the discus as Jason
Young won the event with his mark of 190-10. Teammate Bobby Most
got his 18-foot mark in the pole vault while clearing 18-00.
Paddock Invitational
Melissa Bickett of Michigan set her own Ferry Field record at the
Paddock
Invitational when she sent the discus a season-best distance
of 178-1. Teammate April Phillips continued to improve the school
record in her signature event, the hammer throw, as she heaved the
ball and chain a personal best 199-3.
Emporia State Twilight
Rebekah Green of Kansas State swept all three of the throwing events
she participated in at the Emporia
State Twilight on Friday night. Green took home the shot put
title with her mark of 16.68m, the discus in 50.40m and the hammer
throw with her toss of 54.70m.
Florida State Twilight
Once again, the Florida Gators showed why they are one of the top
throwing programs in the nation at the Florida
State Twilight. Karen Freberg claimed the shot put with her
toss of 55-06.25. In the hammer throw, four lady Gators went over
190 feet as Jukina Dickerson edged out teammate Candice Scott, 215-05
to 212-07, respectively.

Cardinal Qualifier
Florida State's Laura Gerber ran the fastest collegiate time in
the 800 meters this year to highlight the Cardinal
Qualifier on Friday night at Cobb Track & Angell Field.
Gerber's time of 2:03.08 was a career-best for the senior from Geneva,
Switzerland.
Other highlights included Brendon Mahoney of Georgia Tech finish
as the top collegian in the 1500 meters with his time of 3:43.48.
Martin van den Heuvel of Florida State was the next collegian as
he clocked 3:44.42.
The men's 5000 meters saw Matt Levassiur of Adams State finish
third overall and the first collegian as he came through in 14:07.40.
Vicky Gill of Florida State claimed the women's 5000 meters with
her time of 15:42.40.
Horizon League Championships
The University of Detroit-Mercy captured its first Horizon
League Outdoor Championship Friday afternoon at the Michael
A. Carroll Track and Field Stadium.
The Titans ran away with the title, garnering 146 points. Youngstown
State (123) finished second followed by Loyola (106), Butler (100),
UW-Milwaukee (93) and UIC (36).
Senior Matt Groh of Detroit recorded an impressive trio of victories
to cap off his collegiate career as Outstanding Field Performer
of the Meet. Groh shattered his own League Championship records
in the shot put (57-03.50), discus (175-03), and hammer throw (190-00).
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee captured its third consecutive
Horizon League women’s outdoor track and field championship
in record fashion.
The Panthers not only shattered a championship record with 252
points but their 171 victory margin over second place Butler also
set a new high. Youngstown State (80) finished right behind the
Bulldogs in third followed by Loyola (72), Detroit (64), UIC (40)
and Wright State (31).
NJCAA Championships
It was the sprinting events that dominated the action at the NJCAA
Championships hosted by South Plains College. Although aided
by wind-assisted marks, Erick Wilson of Barton CC clocked 9.93 (5.3w)
to win the 100 meters and 20.19 (4.2w) which took the 200 meters.
Wilson will attend TCU in the fall.
The women's sprinting events also took advantage of the wind as
Fana Ashby of Kansas City CC claimed the 100 meters in 11.06 (2.4w)
and the 200 meters in 22.69 (4.6w). Ashby will attend Auburn in
the fall.
The tailwind reading of 5.0 also helped push freshman Dexter Faulk
of Barton CC to the 110 meter hurdles title with his time of 13.58.
Keron Francis of Central Arizona had a personal best of 230-04 as
the winning mark in the javelin.
Orange and Purple Classic
After jumping 7-1 on Thursday at the North Carolina Central All-Comers,
Jesse Williams of NC State cleared 7-4.25 to win the high jump at
the Orange
and Purple Classic hosted by Clemson.
North Carolina sophomore Laura Gerraughty broke the all-time ACC
record in the shot put for the second time in three days and the
third time in three weeks as she threw 61 feet, nine inches. Other
action included Otis Harris of South Carolina running 45.37 in the
400 meters.
Oxy Invitational
The Oxy
Invitational provided several noteable performances which included
Cari Soong of UCLA throwing 211'04 in the hammer. Kyle Erickson
of UCLA won the 400 meter hurdles in 49.78. Giovanni Lanaro of Cal
State Fullerton cleared 18'00.50 in the pole vault.
Campbell/Wright Open
Dan Taylor of Ohio State continued his solid season heading into
the Big Ten Championships at the Campbell/Wright
Open hosted by Akron with a throw of 190-10 in the discus to
set a new Ohio State record.
Nebraska Twilight
Despite the bad weather, Carl Myerscough of Nebraska tuned-up for
the Big 12 Championships with his winning marks of 66-03.25 in the
shot put and 189-06 in the discus at the Nebraska
Twilight.
PAC 10 Combined Events
The PAC
10 Combined Events took place on the campus of USC on Saturday
and Sunday. Ellannee Richardson of Washington State improved on
her NCAA automatic mark with a total score of 5766 to claim the
heptathlon. Lillia Bush of Stanford also met the auto standard with
her score of 5519.
Billy Hays Invitational
Andrea Morgan of Findlay clocked 2:04.36 to win the 800 meters
as the Billy
Hays Invitational at Indiana. Ira Kharun of Indiana claimed
the javelin with her toss of 175-07.
