Meyo Invitational
Notre Dame was host to the Meyo
Invitational as action kicked off on Friday night and into Saturday.
The women's DMR stole the show as both Arkansas and Michigan came
away with hitting the NCAA automatic standards. The Razorbacks won
the event in 11:15.78 while the Wolverines placed second in 11:21.09.
In the men's mile run, four collegiate athletes broke the 4-minute
barrier as Luke
Watson came away with the victory in 3:57.83. He finished ahead
of Michigan's Nathan Brannen (3:57.96), Eastern Michigan's Boaz
Cheboiywo (3:58.07), Michigan's Nick Willis (3:58.15), and Ian Connor
from Nike (3:58.24). Gavin Thompson of Eastern Michigan just missed
breaking the barrier with his time of 4:00.41. Molly Huddle set
a Notre Dame school record and automatically qualified for the NCAA
indoor championship in the 3,000 meters with her time of 9:14.33.
In the 400 meters, Nduka Awazie of Eastern Michigan kept pace with
the rest of the country with his time of 46.73.
Gator Invitational
Florida was host to the Gator Invitational as results from the men
and women
proved to be outstanding. Several men's highlights included John
Moffit of LSU taking the collegiate lead in the long jump with his
leap of 25-10.75. Joe Squittieri of Florida took the high jump with
his clearance of 7-3. Leevan Sands of Auburn proved to be a favorite
in the triple jump with his mark of 54-04.75. Jonathan Fortenberry
of South Carolina held off a strong field in the 400 meters with
his 46.62 victory. Women's highlight's included Florida claiming
even more why they are a powerhouse in the weight throw while sweeping
the top 5 places. Jukina Dickerson won the event with her toss of
67-05.25. Elva Goulbourne of Auburn had a huge mark in the long
jump with her national leading leap of 21-8. Lolo Jones took home
the 55 meter hurdle title in 7.60 while teammate Muna Lee was victorious
in the 55 meters in 6.73. Miami made their case as a team to watch
in the 4x400 meters with their time of 3:37.05.
adidas Classic
The adidas
Classic hosted by Nebraska also came away with many impressive
performances. Amanda Bales of Missouri won the mile run with her
automatic time of 4:41.45. Amy Mortimer of Kansas State was second
in 4:44.20. Teammate Rebekah Greene won the shot put with her toss
of 56-01. Dan Lincoln of Arkansas won the mile run while coming
through in 4:00.84. Mitch Potter of Minnesota made his season debut
by winning the 400 meters in 46.67. Joseph Lee of Kansas State claimed
the 800 meters in 1:48.58. Danny Wolf of Washington State won the
3000 meters with his time of 8:05.05. Five men cleared at least
7 feet in the high jump as Kyle Odvody of Nebraska won the event
with his clearance of 7-01.75. The highly anticipated match-up between
Carl Myerscough of Nebraska and Christian Cantwell of Missouri in
the shot put did not disappoint. Cantwell won the event with his
heave of 68-05. Myerscough came in second with his toss of 68-02.25.
Both marks met the NCAA automatic standard as well.
Rod McCravy Memorial
Kentucky was home to the Rod
McCravy Memorial as several automatic marks were met on Friday.
Dan Taylor of Ohio State took a commanding national lead in the
weight throw with his toss of 72'03.50. He then came back to win
the shot put in 64'05.75. Taylor's teammate on the women's side,
Keturah Lofton, also had an impressive mark in the weight throw
with her toss of 64'01.75. The Mississippi State women came home
with a victory in the DMR by posting an automatic time of 11:18.04.
Krista Keir of Ohio State guaranteed her trip to Arkansas with her
winning mark of 54'10.25 in the shot put. Marquis Davis of Mississippi
State ran a solid time in the 60 meters as he came through the line
in 6.61. Rob Myers of Ohio State cracked the 4-minute barrier in
the mile run with his 3:58.64 victory. Marquis Davis of Mississippi
State took a commanding national lead in the 200 meters with his
time of 20.72. Teammate Glen McFadden was second in 21.04.
Boston tri meet
Boston University hosted a women's
tri meet on Friday as well. Roisin McGettigan of Providence
won the 800 meters in automatic fashion with her time of 2:05.91.
Her teammate, Deidre Byrne, came in second by also hitting the auto
standard in 2:06.00. Julie Spolidoro of Boston College won the 3000
meters in 9:18.11 which met the auto standard. Mary Cullen of Providence
also hit the auto standard in the same event while coming in second
in 9:19.74.
Carolina Heels Challenge
North Carolina played host to the Carolina
Heels Challenge on Saturday. Alison Henderson of William &
Mary won the 5000 meters in 16:15.02 which also met the auto standard.
Illini Classic
Nicole Whitman stole the show at the Illini
Classic. A week after claiming Big Ten, Illinois and U of I
Armory Track records with a triple jump of 44'02.00", Nicole
Whitman of Illinois nearly did it again as she easily won the triple
jump with a performance of 44'00.75". That performance is the
second-longest jump in Illinois and Big Ten history and again automatically
qualified her for the NCAA Championships. Gina Rickert of Iowa State
also punched her ticket to the meet with her winning height of 6-00.75
in the high jump.
Mountain T Invitational
A 13-year old record fell Saturday at Northern Arizona’s Mountain
T Invitational. NAU’s freshman phenom Johanna Nilsson
broke Nikke Toms indoor mile record with her 4:38.67 effort. Nilsson’s
time automatically qualifies her for the NCAA meet as well. Baylor
All-American Darold Williamson and newcomer Jeremy Wariner recorded
automatic NCAA qualifying times en route to taking the top two places
in the men's 400-meter dash. Williamson won the race with a time
of 46.19 followed by Wariner, who clocked a 46.29.

Doug Raymond Invitational
Kent State hosted the Doug
Raymond Invitational. Everlyne Lagat of Toledo won the 5000
meters in 16:34.79 which is the fifth fastest time heading into
the weekend. Adriane Blewitt of Ashland won the shot put with her
mark of 58-09.50. Blewitt remains the top athlete in the shot put
-- regardless of any division -- in the NCAA so far this season.
Jeremy Scott of Allegheny soared in the pole vault with his winning
height of 18-04.50. Scott's mark is the top in the country so far.

Indiana Invitational
At the Indiana
Invitational, David Payne of the Bearcat Track Club, and University
of Cincinnati, ran 7.70 in the 60 meter hurdles which is the fastest
time in the nation. Payne, however, will not be able to compete
at the NCAA indoor championships since Cincinnati does not have
a men's indoor track team. Rachelle Boone of Indiana hit the auto
mark in the 60 meter semi-finals with her time of 7.26. Teammate
Daniele Carruthers also ran 7.37 in the same heat. Boone then went
on to win the finals in 7.27.
Air Force Classic
The Air
Force Classic turned in several noteable sprinting times from
TCU. Jerry Harris won the 400 meters in 46.43 while teammate Jermaine
Joseph won the 200 meters in 21.15. More TCU results included Michael
Frater taking the 60 meter title in 6.70 and Jackson Langat claiming
the 800 meters in 1:48.85.
United Heritage Invitational
Boise State hosted the United
Heritage Invitational as many outstanding marks were met. Aaron
Collins of Texas was the top collegiate in the 200 meters, behind
former Boise State standout Corey Nelson, with his time of 21.03.
Teammate and freshman Brendon Christian placed third with his time
of 21.18. In the 400 meters, Aaron Collins' twin brother, Ashton
Collins, took the victory for Texas as he came through in 46.24.
Sean Shields of Arizona improved on his national mark in the shot
put with his toss of 64-03.
