The End Of The Wire

January 2, 2008 at 8:44 PM - 8 comments - link
Beginning today, the Trackwire 25 will no longer be a staple of the NCAA collegiate track & field campaign. The longest running weekly ranking of NCAA Division I collegiate track teams, Trackwire has published its team power ranking online since the 1997 indoor season, and via fax newsletter for many years before that. Trackwire also formerly provided comprehensive written and photographic coverage of collegiate track & field (including daily updates and real-time meet reports) before moving to a weekly publication schedule in 2002. Trackwire co-founders Gary Verigin and Erik Palmer offer our thanks and congratulations to the many outstanding athletes, coaches, sports information officials and fans who have followed and supported our efforts over the years.

These guys have done an incredible job...they created and distributed the metric by which we all measure the potential of schools during the season...they will be missed...their work will be missed...we are the worse for the loss...

Respect is due to Messrs Verigin and Palmer...hopefully one among us has been duly inspired and will take up the stellar mantle you both have left behind...

Yours in Service...

COME BACK...SOMEONE DO THE RANKINGS!!! it brings competiveness to the sport of track and field. It gives people a chance to see where the majority of the track world see where athletes are at. Its like taking rankings away from NCAA basketball or football or something. This is what track has. Someone has to bring it back.. PLEASE!!!!!!!!

Please help me read between the lines! Does this mean that you will do it on another website? Are you getting completely out of the business? Do you have other things to do besides Trackwire? Give us a little understanding to all of this. It has come as a complete shocker to me. I will truly miss you.

Sorry to see you guys go. You were the first people to really put your heart into this project. You started by fax and then online. My assistant coach Mike Bellarosa helped you. We all did this for fun and of course to get results to help our team. You made a strong contribution the sport and will be missed.

You were the best.
