The beef

July 6, 2008 at 12:57 AM - 2 comments - post comment - link
The Trials are almost over.  Along with hundreds of athletes hopes and dreams.  Well its just another four years till 2012, but the world might end that year.  Depending on how you decipher the Mayan Calander.  Who knows?  While at the trials, I did the math for how many miles a runner ran between over the next four years.  My brother figured he ran a averge of 80 miles a week, and he is an 800m runner.  So it is only 15,360 miles till the next trials.  Give or take a hundred.  I didn't mention in my last blog, that I got the chance to see bri glen jump.  She did what she needed to get done to make finals, but unfortunatly did not make the team.  Good job Bri.  I also saw deserea brown run the 400mH!  That was cool.  She made into the semis.  I think I was the only one cheering for in the fan zone.  Then I watched her semi, and she looked a little tight, but i'm sure she was happy with experince.  I'm bet she come back next year a even better runner.  I saw a lot of kids from colorado run, and lot of DII athletes competing.  That was probably the most exciting part for me.  Us DII athletes don't get much attention, but we know how make it count.
I've been watching the trials here at home, and i'm sick of all the athletes and their bull-****ing petions!! What the hell!  If you fall in a race, you fall!  Thats it.  Its over.  You're done! FINISHED!!!  get over it, and race smarter next time.  You are probably not going to able to get into the final round at the olympics if you trip in the semis.  They won't give you that second chance.  Why should you get in now? You shouldn't!  Also, what was up with Adam Goucher getting in the 10,000?!!  There 10 other men with better times then him.  If they were going to let him in, they should have let those other 10 guys into the race as well.  I don't care how fast he ran last year, if he couldn't do it this year, then he probably won't do it now.  He didn't deserve to get in the race, and he didn't deserve to get on the team.  Thats just my opinion.   Keep checking in.  I have at least one more trials blog I want to write.

Oregon is nuts!

July 3, 2008 at 1:23 AM - 0 comments - post comment - link
I have no words to explain the tials.  I was pretty much speechless the first night.  It was insane.  We (my brother and older sister, plus me) arrived in portland, and drove to Eugene.  The next day we went to check out the fan zone, and hung out there till the meet started.  I loved being there especially because i had orange hair, but i was in the middle of oregon territory.  So every now and then, I would tell some random person, Go Beavers!, or, Where are the beavers?  It was fun.  Our tickets were in section K.  Which was at the start of the 200.  They sucked but, it was still fun to be there.  The first day of the trials, was pretty boring.  Prelims, semis, and the 10K final.  It was fun to watch it.  I know.  Its long and boring, but not this time.  Shalane won easily, and kara was right behind.  The story of the night was Amy Begley.  She was the third runner to finish.  Everyone was cheering for Kara, and Shalane finished the race, but the crowd went nuts for Amy.  Her last lap she had to run under 70 seconds to make the olympic stantard, and she had not run the necessary time yet.  So she was sprinting as fast as she could.  Everyone was clapping and yelling as she ran her last 400.  As soon as she finished everyone in the stadium was waiting to see if she made it.  Sure enough, she made it, and crowd went nuts!  Everyone was so loud.  It was amazing.  I have never seen a crowd like that.  I'm really blessed that I got the chance to watch 4 days of the trials.  It was really fun.  I have more to write.  So check in now and then.

Everyone Dreams of the Olympics

June 15, 2008 at 3:17 AM - 2 comments - post comment - link
With the D-1 Championships complete, all eyes turn towards Eugene and the U.S. as we wait for the results of the U.S. Olympic trials.  Lately athletes have been attempting to make the trials.  Many of them made the standard and many of them are just out of reach.  Although many of you will not make the trials, or the Olympic team, you should not be discouraged.  Competing against elite athletes takes a lot of hard work and love for this sport, especially in the United States.  There are so many talented athletes here, being an elite track and field athlete is one of the hardest things to do, if not the hardest.  I have a lot of respect for someone who has the courage to go out and compete against the worlds best.  You people do what many of athlete’s dream they could do.  That is to be one of the best, to leave behind a legacy, and to live the dream.  So even if you don't make the trials or the team, keep your head up.  At least you tried, and least you know what could have been.  Plus there will always be next year.  Keep up the hard work and good luck to those who make the Olympic trials.  I will be there cheering you on.

Eugene is the place to be

May 31, 2008 at 6:58 PM - 0 comments - post comment - link
So it has been a good while since my last blog.  I haven't had that much to say.  I did however finish my first summer class.  It was a pain.  Business Statistics, 8:00 to 11:00 everyday for 3 weeks.  So I guess it wasn't that bad.  Besides school, I started lifting weights again.  Well actually just for a day.  Then I decided to be a bum.  The best part about this week, besides finishing summer school, we have located Snow Shack!!!   For everyone in town, it is next to the post office.  I'm going to go gets some tigers blood after I finish writing.  Mmmm... Delicious.  This summer is going to be awesome.  Besides eating flavor ice, I'm going to go to the Olympic Trials!  My family bought some tickets yesterday.  All except my sister Claire.  Who is officially a part of the press.  Impressive?  I think so.  Great week.  Stressful, but great.  Summer is going to be a blast.  I going to buy a Moped either this end of summer, or sometime this fall.  Any suggestions?  I want a Vespa, but we'll see.

college bound athletes

May 7, 2008 at 11:44 PM - 3 comments - post comment - link
So we begin the descent of the season, conference, last chance, and the big finale, the national championships.  With all of that in mind, we can’t help but think of what next year will be like.  Will we continue to become a better athletes?  Will we succumb to injuries?  Will our teams become stronger, or weaker?  Nothing is sure.  Nothing is set in stone, and nothing is impossible.
There are tons of kids taking the steps towards their careers in college.  Many will sign a letter on intent, and many more will walk on to a team across the country to see if they have what it takes.  So here is the scenario.  You’re offered a scholarship to join a great athletic program, but someone offers you a larger scholarship to decent athletic program.  What do you do?  The advice given to many students is to take the bigger one so that you don’t have to pay as much for college.  Is this right?  No.  Just for example, my cousin received a huge scholarship to the Michigan.  She wouldn’t have to lift her finger if she really wanted to.  However, she chose a college that gave her a more modest scholarship.  Why, because she knew that she would enjoy it more, then if she attended Michigan.  If you want to be a collegiate athlete, then make sure you choose the right place for you.  Don’t be stupid and sign with the school that gives you a bigger scholarship.  The bigger the scholarship doesn’t mean you are going to be the biggest winner.  Go to the school that will satisfy your goals as an athlete.
My advice to these kids, is make sure that this is what they want.  That becoming a college athlete is the right path.  Many of them will find out that their dream is not to be the national champ, but maybe to become the world’s best doctor, or the next Food Network chef.  Rest assured that everything that happens is meant to be.

I have a problem.  I have become addicted to my Mario Kart Wii.  The truth is I can't seem to part with her.  I don't know why.  She is an amazing game!  I took a break from playing the wii, and on comes a Jack in the Box commercial.  You know I thought of??? I immediatly thought of Dry Dry Ruins.  A course you race in the game.  Yeah.  How is that possible?  Its a fast food chain.  This is insane.  I've only had the game for two days!  Its good thing my sister has my wii, or I probably wouldn't study for my finals next week.  You know whats sad and great?!! Well I do.  One of my professors hasn't been in for the last month and she won't be back.  So my night class has been cancled, but we still get a grade!  Yay no final!
You know.  The RMAC Championships start sunday, and I haven't had anyone talk mess on my blog.  I miss the Shi* talking.  It was very amuzing.  My team may have not liked it, but I do get a good laugh at what people write.  Well I guess I have to start it then.  Adams Is going take both crowns again.  We lead almost every event on and off the track.  Those other teams better hope for a miracle.  I'm going to out on a limb and say that those last three sentences had enough punch, yet were tasteful.  nah i'm just kidding myself.  Ok... i'm going to go not play my wii, and study.  later people

What are the goals for a Collegiate Runner?

April 8, 2008 at 6:12 PM - 1 comments - post comment - link
As a runner in high school.  Anybody who is decent automatically thinks they deserve scholarship.  When I ran in high school, it was because it gave a reason to not be at home bored.  I wasn't that great of a runner, some may even think that wasn't even good.  I only qualified to my State meet once.  It was in the 4x800.  Odd, since trained for the 300m hurdles.  I was the lead leg and didn't run well at all.  That's all in the past.  I didn't even think of running at the college level till my high schoool coach (Hinkhouse) introduced me to my current coach (Wallin).  In fact I remember seeing Coach Martin at the State meet, and he told me to come see him later.  I just said ok.  Then later laughed at the thought of me running in college.  I never went to talk to Coach Martin.  Thank God I probably would have ended up running the 800.
I just want to clear the air with everyone.  I didn't come to Adams to be my brother.  I didn't join the team because I wanted to be a national champion, or an all-american.  I have my own goals to accomplish here, and if I do earn an all-american or become a national champion along the way.  Great, but that's not why I run.  There is more to running track then everybody sees, or for most people, hear.  I will continue to bleed green, and hopefully make a great recovery.  That way when track starts next season, I can check those goals off my list.  See you around.

Adams Women Make History

March 19, 2008 at 9:50 PM - 1 comments - post comment - link
Today is looking bright.  This last weekend was exciting.  Adams State Women won the Indoor title.  First Track title in school History, and it marks the first time a team has won the Cross title and an Indoor title in the same year.  The Men showed just how strong they were dispite losing the conference crown.  They placed 3rd.  So that was exciting to watch.  Almost evey one of our athletes made all-american.  So that was even better.  My older bro won again.  No one even tried to run with him.  The best part of that, was that these two old men were talking **** to my mom and dad at the meet.  Saying how my brother was going to lose.  I don't know who would honestly say that to my parents face.  So the next day my mom sat away from those jerks, and watched my brother dominate.  Then after he recieved his trophy he took it to my mom so he didn't have to keep track of it.  The best part is, she went and found those old men and waved the trophy in their face.  I'm surprised she didn't go tell them something too.  Those old men didn't look amused.  This friday marks the end to my boot.  I don't have to wear it anymore.  I do however have to wear an aircast.  Its better than a boot.  I also get to start running on monday!  So that is even more exciting.  Today our team recieved new uniforms!  So everyone is happy, except a couple guys.  All those guys know how to do is complain and turn left.  So I could care less what they say.  This week is also the start of the rest of our semester!  So I better get to work.  I have about 15 min to get class.  So i'll check up with all of you later.

WHAT!???

March 13, 2008 at 1:37 AM - 0 comments - post comment - link
DII nationals championships are here, along with all the rest.  Lets catch up really quick.  Last time I wrote. The Adams women had won the conference title.  The men had to settle for second place.  Dispite that fact.  Our teams managed to qualify more athletes to the National Championships than any other team in the RMAC.  Races to watch this weekend are probably going to be the Mens and Womens DMR, Mens 5K, Womens mile, Mens 800m, Mens 60, Womens 60mH.  The Mens DMR is currently lead by Mines and their amazing conversion they get on their track.  Watch out for Western and Abliene.  They're both good teams and could take it.  Womens DMR is going to be cat fight between Seattle Pacific and Adams.  Adams has a good team, but SP has Pixler.  So be sure to tune in for that one.  Mens 5k is lead some dude, but watch out for Chris Clark.  He is a good competitor.  Womens Mile is going to a race or its going to be show for Pixler.  Pixler biggest challenge is Tayna Guarmer.  They're both National Champs, and it is TG's senior year.   Anything is possible between these two.  Mens 800 is lead by Anthony Luna of Metro State, but can he withstand the strength and speed that is Nick Lara?  I don't think so.  This kid must be ****ten his pants.  I know I would if I had to race my bother in the 800m.  St Augs has the two fastest guys in the 60m, but which will come out on top?  Womens 60mH is a lot of fast girls this year.  Three are under the winning time from last years Championships.  Its anyones race right now.  Mens shot put leader Bryan Vickers has a gap on the rest of the field, but can he hold on for the title?  We'll have to see.  As for the team titles.  Who knows.  We're just going to have to watch and find out.  see you laters people.

Valentine Invite

February 10, 2008 at 1:59 AM - 1 comments - post comment - link

Ok.  So this weekend, our team took a trip to the east coast.  Where a select few that had not qualified, or were looking to move up on the list, competed at the Boston Universtiy Valentine Invite.  The trip was almost a complete sucess, but i'm not saying why it wasn't.  Friday was the ladies day.  As they qualified two in the 800, i think 3 in the 5k, and the mile, the 4x400 droped another 4 seconds to move up on the performance list, the 200, on saturday morning the womens DMR went auto.  On the guys side we qualified in the one 800, 4x4 qualified, one in the 5k, one in the 400, and i can't really remember what else.  It was a long weekend, and tomorrow is going to be very long as well.  We just finished eating pizza and a lot of the kids are in bed.  You can check out the races on FLOTRACK.  Which i recommend EVERYONE should do.  I ran the anchor leg on the 4x4.  It wasn't too bad this time.  Our opening leg put us in the lead with air to breathe.  We all ran 48's, and ended up running 3:15.22 which would be auto, except for the fact that it was a banked track.  So i'm sure time will be added. We actually ended up first over all.  However, we didn't race Southern Conn.  They had the fastest time going in, but ended up scratching.  So... i guess we can't really say much till we race.  From what i hear they have some K-9s.   well i'm going to bed.  Have to wake up and catch a plane tomorrow morning.   Check out FLOTRACK!!!

One more for Adams

February 4, 2008 at 4:27 PM - 2 comments - post comment - link
So I ran this weekend at the Air Force Invite.  It was ok.  Everybody was having problems.  We had some more people qualify or at least move up on the National Performance List.  Two of our Quartermilers qualified.  Bob-o and Hoppa, or Josh and Michelle.  Which is really cool, because I don't remember the last time a 400m runner qualified to nationals for adams.  oh wait. yes i do.  So besides that I missed finals in the 400 by probably half a second.  So I was a ways off, but I was only three places away.  I also ran an Indoor PR.  That was a nice consolation, but I still want to do better.  I would love to at least make provisional, but i'm need to really work hard, and hope for a clean race.  Bob-o fell in his hurdle race, and he didn't feel to good in the finals of the 400.  So I ended up running the anchor of the 4x4.  I was pretty much freaking out.  I don't like anchor.  I ran a 49 high split, and ended up 4th or 5th.  So that was a little disapointing.  At least we took the lead in the RMAC in the 4x4.  Next time we run, i'm sure we'll have a better chance to qualify.  Did I mention the mens team won?!  That was really cool.  We didn't even have our big distance guys running for us either.  Too bad for MWC.   The women ended the team race in second, so that was nice too.  I'm not sure where the team is headed next, but i'm ready to run already.

RE-RE-RE-Reee...MIX!!!

February 1, 2008 at 12:21 AM - 1 comments - post comment - link
Ok so do I have some stories to tell you!  The Green and Red Shootout was CRAZY!!!  Tons of fans, tons action, and tons of everything else.  Except bacon, I didn't see bacon.  So before the Shootout, there was an open meet.  Which I competed in.  I ran the 60m and the 300m.  60m was about averge for me.  300m wasn't too bad.  I ended up winning, so that was cool.  I haven't won a event at a track meet in a long time.  A really long time.  Well I have been on winning relays, but never a solo win.  So what else, oh yeah.  Adams ended up winning the shootout.  We got a wicked sweet trophy, or cup, or a gold trophy cup. Either way, it looks cool.  I ended up running the third leg on the 4x306.  Which we not only won, but destroyed the competion in.  There is a funny picture of my coach holding the gold trophy cup in our local paper.  I hope he doesn't read that.  What else is there to say...  Well, our team will be competing at the Air Force Invite tomorrow and saturday.  Along with a kagillion other teams.  To name a few Utah State, Wyoming, BYU, Colorado State University, CU, UCCS, Mines, Western, Wichita State, Univeristy of Nothern Colorado, Metro State, UNM, New Mexico State, and Mesa State.  So yeah... A lot of people.  I'll be running the 400, and the 4x4, and I better run a hella lot better than I did last time was there.  I know I will.  I feel good about tomorrow.  Talk to laters!

This week we ran...

Monday: 40yard sprints
Tuesday: 5x200
Wednesday: 20min run
Today: Tempo 200's
Tomorrow: Kick ass

Fun in school
By: Stevan Lara
Ok so this week was crazy.  I had two Critiques, one in drawing, and another in photo.  So I was really stressed out, because my Consumer behaivor Professor just randomly says stuff.  Then my team (The Rabid Monkeys) gets all confused.  So needless to say, we were freaking out!  Then my friend needed help developing his film.  So I was there helping him, while I was trying to finish my photos, for five flipping hours we were making pictures in that damn dark room.  So we finish and i'm stressed because I have a drawing due tomorrow, and stupid Consumer crap, and my 3-D design class is a whole other story. So i'm there pacing back in forth in front of the pop machines.  I was trying to plan out everything.  So then I look over, and I see buttons.  So naturally I push some.  A-3 to be exact, and I continue to pace.  Then I heard the most amazing thing ever!  The machine was dispensing my coke!  yeah!  so I took it out asuming that someone left their change in there.  No I was wrong, because the next thing I did was push A-6.  Out popped a Powerade!  That one was especially delicious.  So then I proceeded to fill my back pack.  Did I feel bad, a little...  However, I decided it was my reward for helping my friend, plus it made me less stressed.  I ended up drawing a really awesome spoon, and was told that the compostion was the best in the class.

Cucumber Slices in Water???

January 24, 2008 at 1:16 AM - 1 comments - post comment - link
My blog has nothing to do with cucumbers.  I just didn't know what to title it.  So what is there to say?  Well not much has been happening here at Adams.  Except this weekend is "Whiteout Weekend"  It's the only weekend where all five winter sport sqauds will be competing with our rivals Western State.  Except wrestling...there going to dual Central Oklahoma instead of Western.  It's still cool because Central Ok is #3 and Adams is #5 in the nation.  So I guess all the students are suppose to dress in white for the sporting events.  Thus the whiteout theme.  There should be a good sized crowd at each.  Except i'm kind of in doubt about our track meet on friday.  Even though everyone in town knows we sponsor a good track team, i bet they all think it's boring.  The meet is set up in a really cool way.  The best two athletes from each school go head to head in each event.  Except the field events.  Only one competitor for them. After each event is done, the fans are suppose to move on to the next event.  So only one event will be held at a time.  There is going to be a LJ, TJ, SP, WT, 60m, 60mH, 300m, 500m, 1K, i think a mile?, maybe pole vault?, and a 4x306.  Yeah a 4x306.  Our track is roughly 150m, so two laps is around 300m. So they designed the relay that way to get the spectators more into it.  Plus if we ran a real 4x4 they would have to keep turning to different spots to see the exchange zones.  So this just makes it easier for the fans.
Did I mention that it is going to be at night?  It is going to be cold...      Really cold.  School still sucks.  I'm way tired from school.  oh well.  Track is there.  What can I say?

Monday we did speed stuff.  Lifted lower
Tuesday I ran 3x500's.  Lifted upper
Today ran 20min.
Tomorrow..?
Friday - Green and Red Shootout!
Well that all for now human beings.  I hope you're human...

First Meet

December 6, 2007 at 12:34 AM - 0 comments - post comment - link

First meet of the year was quite the Warm-up.  We all had a good meet. I didn’t see one person have a horrible day, but I did hear of one.  One of the competitors was injured while attempting to jump over a high jump mat and some spectators.  Either way, he should have had enough common sense to not take that chance in his senior season.  I sure am happy that it wasn’t one of my teammates.  So, I ran the 600, and it was pretty interesting.  I won my heat, but ended up 8th overall.  The funny thing was that I’ve run a faster time in practice than I did at the meet.  The women were just kicking ass for their first meet of the season.  One of our girl’s qualified in 3 events to nationals, and another two of our girls sprinted their way to a qualification as well.  Two of our guys set qualifying marks in the throwing events as well, needless to say this season is going to very interesting.  Even though we run well against Western, I have to keep in mind that there is much tougher competition out there and keep working hard.  This weekend we host the ASC Early Bird Open.  I’m really excited to run our 4x400.  I used to hate running on it, but it grew on me.  This will be our last meet before Christmas break, and then it is time for us to shift gears.  So besides that, I hope my teammates and I can keep up the good work because we have a long way to go before nationals.

P.S.  What is with these people and posting their blogs three times a day and 9 times in a week.  I have some advice.  Get a life.  oh and check out this video!  It is the Adams Fans at XC Nationals!

My Bad

November 28, 2007 at 9:35 PM - 1 comments - post comment - link
So i keep forgetting to write my blogs. I've been super busy with school and especially track. Last time i wrote, i was about to head to nationals. That was a wonderful experience which made me even more excited for the upcoming season. WOO HOO!!! Just being able to watch my teammates win another national title was awesome. It was even better when the guys ran. As I predicted 6 of girls earned all-american honors. However the guys race was just CRAZY! It was so close, that it was the closest race in ten years. 7 points separated the champs from the not champs. 5 of the guys ran their way to all- american honors. Thats you fool! ( don't ask) anyways. We ended up tying for second with our rivals. So besides that everything has been fun! Thanksgiving was long. Maybe it was long because I was sick. It wasn't that great. School. It is there. This upcoming Sunday is our first indoor meet (The ASC Winter Warm-Up) against our arch-rival western. Grr.... Argghh..... Then 4 days later we race them again at the Early Bird. It should make for some good entertainment for our fans. Seeing as adams is going to ---- ---- ***! I'm going to run the 600, and i'm not scared. I just don't like running anything longer than a 500. Lactate is not my friend, or anyone's and if it is... You're weird. So thats all for now. So we'll see how this next week will go. -The Other Lara

DII Nationals!

November 13, 2007 at 5:47 PM - 1 comments - post comment - link

OK… So here we go again.  This weekend is going to be crazy.  Why is it going to be crazy?  One reason, The DII NCAA Cross Country National Championships!  That’s right.  Everyone is getting ready, and making last minute travel arrangements.  This is probably going to be the best race I’ll see for the rest of the year.  Abilene Christian v Adams State v Western State, this should entertain me for a couple hours.  Everyone is rested and ready to kick some ass.  Who’s going to win?  Well you can pretty much guess who I’m betting on.  Adams.  You can just hear how excited they are to run.  It doesn’t matter to them if Hogarth or Nicodemus return to the line up.  Because when it comes down to it, Adams State still has something no other team has.  Huevos!  No I’m just playing, I’m sure there are a few runners out there that have them too.  Seriously though, I’m getting goose bumps just writing about this race.  Why?  It’s going to be the biggest dog fight this weekend.  It is literally the best three teams in the nation running for bragging rights till next season, and for the all important National title.

The girl’s team is looking for another repeat.  They’re super strong, and I’m pretty sure that all they have to do is show up to the race to get the title.  Knock on wood…  Not you Heather.  But seriously, these girls have it going on.  At the least, they could have six girls make all-American.  They’re more than ready to just run, they’re going to dominate.

I’m not only excited for my team, but my family and friends on the cross team.  I’m really excited because my brother Nicholas is on the team for his senior season.   Not only is my Brother in the line up, but my cousin Antonio.  I’ve been running with him for years, and can’t wait to see what he does in Missouri.  Plus one of my best friends is on the girl’s team.  I’ve know here since the 1st grade!  I’m really proud of them, and know they’re all going to do great.  I’m headed up to Missouri this weekend, and hopefully all goes well for the grizzlies.

So I haven't written in quite a while, and it has been anything but boring here at Adams. The mens and womens cross country teams both won the RMAC Cross Titles. Unfortunatly the mens team lost by one point at the North Central Regional Championships. The womens team continued to dominate and claimed the the regional team title, and the individual title. Which is pretty cool, because TG hasn't won a cross race this season, and everyone was rooting for her. The cross team aren't the only people that have been working hard. A couple weeks ago, we had our time trial. 500m of pure fun. Everyone set a PR, or at least ran close to their PR. So we finally moved into the indoor track. Which i'm not sure is a good thing. On one hand, it is warm and there isn't any wind. On the other hand we breathe in a mixture of hot air and dust. Plus our track is only 150m around. I guess beggers can't be choosers. We have 30 days till our first meet, and i'm really not sure if i'm excited or scared sh**less. Oh well i'm sure everything will work out. So i'm not sure whether to be angry or disapointed in runners. Not all runners, just the ignorant people on the message boards at letsrun.com who sit down and unload a big pile of Hate! I read a thread about how Adams doesn't deserve to win, how we suck eggs, and blah blah blah. What is with people these days?! What on Earth did we do to you? It's not like we roll up to the race and start telling everyone how good we are, and how much they suck. No, you don't see or hear anything like this coming from an athlete at Adams. It's not our style. I read another thread about how other runners won't support Abiline, Adams, or Western because we have foriegners on our teams. These people believe that foreigners shouldn't be allowed to compete in the U.S. I don't see why not.? they have as much right as we do. Don't these idiots realize that this country was founded by people who immigrated here? These athletes not only help their school, they help the sport. They make you want to do better, and help make the competition level better. If they don't want Nicodemus or Hogarth to win, Why don't they get off their lazy butts and do something about it? Athletes are athletes. It doesn't matter where they come from to me, I'm just going work twice as hard so I can win. But...maybe we should have an age limit to join the NCAA, like 26 or something to that effect. - The Other Lara

Training for Adams

September 23, 2007 at 2:48 PM - 1 comments - post comment - link

Well what can I say about training at Adams State College?   It is probably like any other school.  You train hard, do what your coach tells you to do, and put your whole heart into it.  Who am I kidding?   We train really hard!  Because running at Adams isn’t just something you do.  It is something that becomes a part of you.

Like any team we started off the year as one whole, throwers, sprinters, distance and jumpers.  We all have the same goal in mind, the elusive National team title.  We all know we have to work hard.  The distance crew is almost half way through their season.  They’re once again making sure that Adams State College is on top again.

As for the rest of us, we start the year in style, a crap load of 300’s and 600’s.  Sounds like a good time huh?  Well I wouldn’t say good time, but being at practice with all my friends is what makes practice fun.  I think the worst workout so far has been “crushins”.  There is nothing like a non stop running workout.  I think running hills are one of my favorite workouts this year too.  The first few weeks were the worst.  Running at an altitude of over 7500 ft is not fun.  You are literally trying to suck in as much air as you can.  Wait…  Hold on.   What I mean is… that everyone else was sucking in air.  I have lived in Alamosa my entire life, and I’m not really affected by the thin air.   So it pretty much sucks for everyone else.

Fall training is hard, it’s repetitive, and it’s long!  Sometimes you will find yourself wanting to skip practice because you’re not in season, but fall training is what will make you stand out from the rest.  So how is it that people stay motivated?  For many it’s that picture of themselves on top of that podium.  For me it’s representing Adams State’s good name.  I want to help continue this running legacy and see it become more.  I’m going to keep working hard, and help my team.  Because at the end of this season when I lay my cards on the table, I’m not going to have any regrets.
