April 1, 2008 at 1:00 PM - 5 comments - link
Week 2 rankings of the top 8 in each event for Division I men. With the busy weekend ahead (Stanford Invite, Texas Relays, Florida Relays, and more), look for some changes and shake ups next week. RunnerSpace will be on site at the Stanford Invite this week with videos and interviews.

The Jumpers posted aren\'t even qualified yet for the Regions, so why are they on the list? The Ga Tech guys have been doing it both indoor and outdoor, consistency, and even in the ACC. Who is the Fla State guy? The ACC champion in this event was from Ga Tech. Maybe the weekend will show the real jumpers!

I guess you didn't see the Alabama Relays where Mayio beat Barnabus by 30 seconds.

I'm only one of the people who ranks the steeple, so I can't speak for the others, but you're right, I missed that. I'll certainly factor it into next week's rankings.

Oh, and I can apparently confirm previous reports that Jake Morse is redshirting this season. He is listed on the Texas Relays start list as unattached.

<br>I\'m not one of the RunnerSpace rankers, but used to follow the Trackwire rankings and will offer my two cents, as I think the RunnerSpace rankers are giving us a good approximation of what Trackwire did previously. RunnerSpace opened on March 18 with pre-season rankings. That necessarily had to be based on what athletes did last year, who\'s back, who\'s graduating, who\'s redshirting, who\'s injured, who\'s prospered indoors, and so forth. As the season then gets into gear, new info arrives. Athletes get hurt, some of them appear subpar, others prosper more than expected, new people come out of the woodwork, and we get more and more qualifiers. But to not rank somebody until they get a qualifier, even if it\'s apparent that a qualifier will likely be forthcoming, wouldn\'t seem to serve the purpose of trying to best guesstimate, as the season proceeds, what\'s going to happen in June.
