E-8 Men Pre Season Rankings
Here is the beginning of what we hope will be a helpful benchmark of what is currently going on in Division I track and field. Each week we will publish rankings compiled from track gurus, sports writers, coaches, and fans from across the country. These rankings are a picture of what we think will happen at the NCAA meet in June. As the season progresses and more information (on injuries and redshirting) comes in, these rankings will predict more and more precisely the outcome of the season. We encourage you to give us feedback on our rankings by posting comments about how we're doing and any 'inside information' you have that will help our rankers. Your first ranking in the High Jump sucks, go back and check last years NCAA meet and see who was there. Jackasses

Thank you for your initial efforts! Since Trackwire no longer does the rankings, I was hopeful as a BIG division I track and field fan, that someone would come along and take on this undertaking! I look forward to following the rankings throughout the season. More comments to follow!

Martin Maric does not compete for Goergia anymore. and Chris Hill does not compete for McNeese St.
Also Reindell Cole and Norris Frederick should be 1 and 2 in the long jump. no one is within 15-20cm of each of them

To those of you who left helpful feedback, thanks. To the first anonymous commenter who called us "Jackasses": What is it about the Internet that just makes people lose all civility and act in ways that they would never do when meeting someone face-to-face? Seriously, this is a blog about a sport, not some life-and-death issue.
I am the one who put together the high jump rankings, and you're right – they're not that great. I VOLUNTEERED to do this in my spare time, and slapped something together in between deadlines in my real job. Hopefully, next week's rankings will be more carefully thought out and analytical.
None of us who are working on the rankings are getting paid for it, we're doing it because we love the sport. But people like you make me love it just a little less.
Tell you what, let's start over: Perhaps you could politely say, "I think your high jump rankings are flawed. Here is why …" And then explain your reasoning, while remembering that I am a human being, not just a name on the other end of your computer. I will then gladly take your thoughts under consideration. Or maybe you could step up to the plate yourself and offer to be one of the rankers.
By the way, anyone who wants to see my personal picks (on some events, the rankings you see are the combined efforts of more than one person) and my reasoning behind them can go to http://ncaarankingsleenichols.blogspot.com/

Please do not let that first comment affect or effect what you are trying to acomplish. I think you are giving the track community a great service and I was extremely happy when I turned on my computer this morning and saw the rankings. That person who left that first comment does not have any idea what it takes to put these rankings together. I have a kid who runs collegiately and that is the ONLY reason why I want to remain anonymous, but I agree, if you feel the need leave a comment like that, remember, YOU TOO CAN STEP TO THE PLATE. Keep up the reat service.

What about Billy Nelson from Colorado in the steeple? He finished 4th last year @ NC's and he's back with a 6th year of eligibility...

I believe Thorsten Muller of V. Tech has returned to Germany... he did not compete for them indoor this year....
Also, are your marks based strictly off of outdoor personal bests? I\'m not sure about other events, but you may want to reconsider your men\'s pole vault.... I don\'t mean to demean anyone, but Heath of McNeese hasn\'t jumped 18 feet in over 2 years.... Muller is out of the country.... Roth and Scott (granted they are still young and VERY talented) haven\'t faired well at an NCAA meet yet.... Hogue is consistently mid 17\'s, but I don\'t know if he is top 8 material....
I would suggest taking a look at the indoor performance list from this past season, and then the NCAA results for the past 2 years.....
I think you gotta make Hoste of Stanford the favorite with his 5.60 clearance indoor this year.... but you also may want to check out Mitch Greely of Clemson, the entire BYU squad, Nick Frawley of Air Force, and the OTHER foriegn guy from Virginia Tech.....
Anyway, thanks for the effort yall are putting into this ranking thing. Just thought you could use some help from someone who follows the vault.

I strongly encourage you to contact Matt and possibly join us as a vault ranker. Right now I am the only person doing it, and I could definitely use some help.

Hey anonymous, what is your source of info on the Jake Morse redshirt? I've asked the UT SID for confirmation, but she hasn't been able to track it down yet.
