Summary 191 miles for the week, 1 good workout, two other hard efforts that were good for that purpose, tons of hilly running, 3 good short hill workouts.  Now don¡¦t all go getting your panties in a bunch this isn¡¦t some crazy new training plan its just a big cycle for 10 days as a super comp phase.  Feel great had fun, am real tired and am back up at foss and going to bed so no quotes or anything this week.  Oh and sorry for mispelling people's names and not in any way editing this post.

Ok never mind rex radloff is giving me a quote ¡§don¡¦t hate relate¡¨ rex himself and he likes ¡§there is no such thing as bad weather just soft people.¡¨ Bill bowerman

20 sessions in 7 days? Base training or not, I think I'm beginning to see why you end up injured and burned out so often. Recovery is an important part of training. I'm sure you know that, but it looks like you're addicted to the mileage. Good luck.

To the poster who called Nate a moron (in a few more words) while he is running an very high level of volume, look at the overall intensity of much of his running. Many of his miles are covered at a very relaxed pace, especially for someone of his caliber, giving him what very well may be the recovery he needs. Just because someone is running a lot doesn't necessarily mean that they are overtraining or skipping out on recovery periods.

in addition...

I'd also like to say to the first poster that you act as though his "addiction" to mileage and his training is totally random and he just runs 3 times a day on a whim without any thought to the consequences or after-effects. In reality nothing could be further from the truth; if you have followed Nate's blogs faithfully you would know he probably spends more time thinking about and analyzing his own training plan than anyone and he's running all of his workouts with a specific purpose in mind. Nate - not to get repetitive here but you are a badass. Great to see you back your old self, best wishes for continued health and good training.

Nate can spend years thinking about his training, but that still doesn't change the fact there's a ton of JUNK in his schedule. But yeah, keep thinking that doing three sessions in less than 12 hours is a good idea. We'll see Nate injured again before the year is out, mark my word.

Awesome training Nate. For those criticizing, go read Canova's Super compensation idea. It's right off of there. Last I recall, he hasn't done too bad as a coach. Swimmers do the same thing, short periods of almost overtraining. It brings you to a new level if you do it right. There's no such thing as junk mileage. GO look at the japanese or Ryan Hall running slow as crap during recovery days.

keep it up

Way to be man

190...wowzers! Keep it up. Question of inquiry: what is the purpose behind the short hill repeats? I mean, those are short (aka 14 seconds short). What purpose do they play into your training?

short hill repeats

8:55 PM, August 25, 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
Short hill repeats mainly increase heart stroke volume by driveing your heart rate up very close to max and then dropping it down quickly to 120/130. Also they help with muscular development improve muscular efficancy and aerobic efficancy. sorry for the poor spelling.

Hamstring

1:45 AM, August 26, 2008 .. Posted by Anonymous
Nate, I battled a hamstring injury for 7 years. I had seen countless PTs, massage and other alternative methods and nothing worked until I started going to see a PT who incorporates some non-traditional treatment into his practice. I have now been running relatively injury-free for 3 years (which I did 5 marathon cycles and ran on average 70-105 mpw, oh and I am a woman). I am sure a lot of people have told you they know someone who can help, but I have had countless friends who did not think he could help and they are back on the roads...
If you are interested post a message and I will somehow get you the name of the guy...

Impressive

Nate,
That is more miles than I thought could be done in a week. You are going to be one strong runner after this cycle.
Good luck.
Ryan

I have no doubt you will be stronger for this training, people bump their gums about junk miles but cyclists will do 30 hours a week at a lower relative intensity than nate running 8 minute miles,
also its not just for the body, right now nobody is training harder than him, think of how that feels.
YOURE GONNA EAT LIGHTNING AND SH*T THUNDER!
