Summary 81 miles for the week, 1 sub par workout, 1 ****ty
race. Something is not right and I
really don’t know what it is but I did 80 miles this week and my body feels
like I did 160. Josh Moen is my new
hero, this is the second straight race I’ve roomed with him and I’m telling you
he rocks. So he is in the Atlanta Airport tram and the doors don’t reopen
if they close on you, they just force shut and there are like a million signs
telling you this. But this women decides
to push it and sees the doors closing and leads with her stroller to get in and
sure enough the doors close on her arms and instantly the doors are closed and
the baby and stroller are on the tram and mom isn’t. So Josh leaps to action giving the woman one
of his huge smiles and a solid double thumbs up he takes possession of the
child. And she sprints for the next
station, Josh keeps the kid entertained, gets off with his new found little one
at the next stop and returns the tike to a very stressed out mom. All in days work for the man from Iowa. His reward for this kind act and his crazy
friendliness was that he got into a conversation with a very loud and very
racist women on the MARTA on his way to the hotel and thought he might get
killed. Again all in days work for
Division 3’s greatest son.
But for real this
kid is one of the US’s
best road runners he will mix it up with anyone and is always in the race from
the gun and very often in it at the end.
Quote of the week “Of course I’m going out in the lead pack
that’s why I like running on the roads the only tactic is to run with the lead
and go for the win” Josh Moen (he may
not have actually said this in so many words but its close enough)

Nate,
First let me say i respect your running to the max. You're knowlege and what you put yourself through is incredible. I know i couldn't. With that being said, Injuries aside, I think it's nothing more than a confidence issue right now. I know you train alot on your own but i think you need to train some more with individuals equel or better than you. I think that would benefit you tremendously. Again I respect you and envy your running abilities and wish you nothing but great success. I'm nothing but a recreational runner having fun watching a local boy
compete at such a high level. I know you have high expectations with your training and racing but stop being so hard on your self. Give your self a pat on the back once and a while and go get em!!! Keep the faith.

-Put this as your quote of the week next week.
Quoted from letsrun
"nate jenkins has the best blog out on the net, he answers a lot of training questions and is pretty knowledgeable, but don't post any negative comments."
Is that you DeDaDominator?

"When you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."
--quoted from The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
To those who choose to post negative thoughts: time to start looking within to re-evaluate.
It seems redundant to tell Nate to keep the faith and chase his dream... because that is exactly what he is doing (although I am sure he appreciates the encouragement).

Nate,
I read your posts frequently, and enjoy reading your thoughts on training. Seems like you are trying to get past your injuries, and continuing to train hard, and the results are not what you expect. Running is never a constant, and results are never either. Though, I admire your dedication to the sport, and hope you return shortly to the results you expect.
I will be running Utica this weekend as well. I am hoping to salvage what has been a frustrating season, since I added doubles to my routine, though my races are all slower than last year. Anyway, hope to see you after the race (at least the Saranac will be flowing).
Best regards,
Robert (Rob) W. Barker III

Good luck this weekend Nate. Last week you might not have run the way you wanted, but you got a valuable scalp to your collection. Rodgers Rop, one of the elite 5 to win Boston and New York and pr of 2:07 if im not mistaking.
