I believe in this thing called RUN!

My body is feeling good and i'm enjoying life. THANK YOU GOD!!!! I also want to thank Alan for giving me such a boost in my confidence. My training is really starting to come around. I'm hoping this will translate to a breakthru in racing. I just need this to last (and i have a good feeling it will) til the end of June :)

Here's a summary of the last week's training:

Thursday May 24 - (am) quick yoga session on some grass in downtown Indianapolis. Travel to Wisconsin on the Mega Bus and Amtrak. I got to Milwaukee and my dad drove me to watch my brother run the 4x8 and 4x4 at Sectionals (Hartford,WI).

He ran an ok 8, but the wind killed him and he did'nt make up any ground to anchor their team to 4th place.. after that race I did a 72 minute run out in the rolling country hills. I started easy with a few of the high school girls, then picked up the pace, feeling awesome. It was humid and extremely windy. A few miles in, it started to rain and it felt AMAZING. I went out against the wind, just feeling so strong. I ended by running a few loops on the grass, did 6 x strides (barefoot) and some pushups.

The 4x4 went off as i was finishing up - my bro Jake ran awesome - he pulled their team up to the lead as the 2nd leg.. on his last 100 he blew by everyone like they were standing still. (51-52? split).. they took 3rd and made it to State. He could be a phenomenal runner, but he is doing a different sport each season (with a focus on hockey and soccer) and doesn't do anything outside of practice.

Friday May 25 Easy 6 miles in Oshkosh - with ma rudd on the bike.. ran past Titan Stadium (host of NCAA III Track) before the meet began. Felt good and was surprised because i haven't felt bad in a while. I finished with some quality stretching and abs.

I went to the track to see the women's steeple won in a fast 10:13 by Shauneen Garrahan (who also won the 10k and 5k for the triple!!!) That was very exciting, especially knowing there is a possibility she may join the Invaders this next year! I gave in and went out to have a drink with some friends.. no matter how serious the training, you have to do that once in a while to enjoy life. I got in bed by 12:30 so it was all good.

Saturday May 26
Drove to the Oshkosh West high school track (where it all began) to do a steeple workout. When I arrived I saw the Platteville guys running by, but they said they were too hung over to do any kind of a workout. I was very fired up and found my rhythm going over the barriers today. This was a huge confidence booster. I felt so strong and fast and even felt like I could have handled more with some spark in my legs on the cool down. The temp was mild in the 60's with a noticeable wind on the backstretch. I finished just in time to watch the 1500 start at the NCAA's a mile or so away
.
The workout - Warm up 27 minutes, strides, drills, run thrus...
10 x 400m (w/ 4 hurdles per lap, 90 sec jog recovery) The goal was to start around 80 and average 78's.

80.2  79.2  77.4  77.9  77.9  76.5  77.3  75.8  76.1  74.3
3 minute recovery jog
4 x 200m (no hurdles, just working on form and accelerating thru, with 200 jog b/w)
33.4  34.7  34.5  33.3
Cool down 18 minutes.. then at the warm up track in between NCAA races - -
drills, plyos. Everything was going great until it started raining and I froze. I also got yelled at for stealing a worker's lunch. I am really sorry and should have gotten my lazy butt to Subway.

Later that evening: Run 24 minutes (easy around the neighborhood & parks), followed by some yoga and my ghetto strength session - pullups and dips on our backyard monkey bars, pushups, lots of body weight stuff for lower and abs. I did not go out for long on this night. But I did get an invite and have committed to running the 5th annual SHITHOUSE 5k in La Crosse, WI on July 28th. After I won in 2004 I promised to be there for every single race until I retire (which will be around age 98). The only exception I can make is if I am competing in Europe over the summer.

MORE TO COME LATER.... is anyone even reading this?
