Patience

Our patience will achieve more than our force.” - Edmund Burke

I’m so frustrated I could pull my damn dreads out, and if you know how much money I’ve put in them to make ‘good hair’ lock… you know this is a serious matter.  Injuries seem to follow me as if they’re my shadow; this time my left foot is the silhouette.  Out of nowhere my left arch started hurting badly but like a retard I just acted like it would go away.  Now… I’m at practice in the back of the pack, breathing heavily, out of shape, out of form, and looking more like a freshman walk-on, than a Senior 4x All-American.  To say I’m out of shape is to say that Halle Berry is just a skosh cute… HUGE understatement!  To even use the word shape is giving me too much credit… I’m without form at this point… more of a running abstraction than a shapely athlete… but through the advice of my roommate Jamil, I’m going to try and remain positive.  Herein is where the frustration lies…

Some people are naturally happy.  We all know the annoyingly happy, energetic, I-don’t-care-if-i-have-8-am-classes-cause-i-love-the-morning kind of happy.  And then there are others who tend to be naturally depressed.  I’m definitely more the latter than the former and when coupled with my destructive tendency to OVERTHINK everything I’m a breeding ground for frustration.

But I keep reminding myself that this is an Olympic year and the collegiate season is far from short.  And there may even be a benefit in the complete ‘reset’ of my fitness level.  We had a 6:30am practice because of a community service project obligation in the afternoon, and while I was panting uncontrollably while running 3x600m, I had to remind myself of Tiff Ross-Williams and how she was struggling badly at the beginning of Fall when she first came back from pregnancy only to split 50. in Orlando in January.  I just have to be patient and have faith that I’m the greatest combo hurdler in college.

Im too lazy to type anything else so….yea…. I’m done

Hey man, regardless of your situation, you seem like a hell of a writer. Your words really flow and you describe things well, its pretty good.

As far as injuries, man, you can never really get away from them. You just gotta keep listening to your body as best you can and keep doing everything you think you need to do to try to stay healthy. Trust me, if I can be relatively healthy of a patches of time, then anyone can, including you.

Negativity won't kill you, by the way, just don't let it stop you. I'm also on the negative/pessimistic side of the personality realm, but if you don't let it prevent you from doing what you need to do to get to where you wanna go, then you are ok. Sometimes that can be hard though. Just keep on keep'in on, ha, right?

Plus when you go through so much frustration from stupid and annoying injuries, it makes it feel so good when your actually running and even more amazing when you are running well. So you got some great feelings coming, just remember that through the epic frusturation.

Take it easy man.

Hey.... so it's UNR track... aka Kali. And if anyone knows the frustration of bein injured constantly, its me. There are only 2 things with this that you can control... stayin smart, and taking care of yourself. You have to leave the rest up to faith, and have faith that this is what you're supposed to be doing and because of that, things WILL work out. Trials are a long ways away. You dont need to be in top shape right now. And it is usually easier for people who have been in elite shape to get back into that shape faster than those who have never had that conditioning before. Be patient and keep faith. I'll be prayin for you, and keep us informed on how things are going. Remember, when you're down... you can only go up. (hope i'm not one of those annoyingly happy people haha)

Your writing!

I just wanted to tell you that you write very well! Most of the blogs I read all sound the same but when I was reading through yours it felt as if I was reading a book. I just felt like I had to tell you that which you more than likely already know! But I hope you get over your injuries and get back out there I wish you the best of luck. Take Care!!!!

YOU NEED TO HEAR THE TRUTH

First and foremost, I agree your writing is outstanding. I am already aware that your an excellent student and that your very intelligent. However, not to take anything away from you, it is slightly obvious to me that you do complain a lot. I understand you have injuries but you need to rehab as they come and just accept and get it together or get out of the sport. Yes some are a lot happier than other and some are a lot more lucky, know one really knows why. If you are a christian and I believe you are, you would just do you part involving your religion and accept the outcome. The continuous blogs of how your going through "oh so much" is unnecessary. However I wish you the best of luck. :)

Thanks

Mr./Mrs. Anonymous,

I loved your comment, most notably the 'get it together or get out' comment. I also chuckled a bit at the 'oh so much' assertion. Guess the TRUTH can be funny! So here's a bit of truth from me to you. You're point is well taken, and maybe, just maybe I'll start writing about roses, clouds, and candy, but until then feel free to ignore my unneccesariness. Good luck to you as well :)
