Results for the Weekend of 5/03/08
While the top throwers stood their ground, there were tons of other improvements this past weekend. Jessica Pressley (Arizona State) had the one of the biggest improvements of the weekend. The senior improved her personal best by ten feet to move into third on the national list. Loren Groves (Kansas State) also improved by more than five feet over the weekend, while Kate Burton (Wyoming) and McKenzie Garberg (Washington State) also improved by nearly ten feet. Eva Orban (USC) also threw this weekend, but just took one throw to secure a win at the USC/UCLA dual meet before passing on her final five attempts.
On the men's side, Simon Wardhaugh (Boise State), Egor Agafonov (Kansas) and Matej Muza (Virginia Tech) produced the top marks of the weekend and continued their consistent seasons. Sevral others, however, made significant improvements. After starting off the season slow, Jarrod Stevens (Boise State) threw a personal best of 66.77m (219-01). Two other notable improvements were notched by Greg Watson (Southern Utah) and freshman Dimitrios Fylladitakis (UTEP).

Results for the Weekend of 4/26/08
Few of the top athletes posted personal bests over the weekend. Eva Orban (USC) once again posted the top women's mark of the weekend, while Brittany Riley and Sarah Stevens also produced strong throws. On the men's side, Cory Martin (Auburn) and Jake Dunkleberger (Auburn) both broke 70 meters to take home the top two spots at the Drake Relays. Jason Morris (Missouri) had an impressive personal best of 68.41m (224-05) to place third.

Results for the Weekend of 4/19/08
After a long weekend, I've finally been able to compile all the results from across the country. Eva Orban (USC) utterly dominated Brittany Riley (Southern Illinois) at the Mt. SAC relays on Sunday afternoon. Orban was the top collegiate thrower and placed third overall. Riley, however, had foul trouble and only managed 58.11m (190-08).
Walter Henning (North Carolina) had the best men's mark of the weekend leading the ACC Championships from start to finish over Matej Muza (Virginia Tech). However, another freshman emerged as perhaps the most impressive so far this season. Jordan Stray (Oregon) took second place at the Oregon vs. UCLA dual meet with a new personal best of 65.75m (215-08).

Results for the Weekend of 4/12/08
Cory Martin (Auburn) showed that not competing during the indoor season didn't hurt him at all. In his first meet of the season, he opened up with a big personal best of 73.07m (239-09) and easily outdistanced teammated Jake Dunkleberger. This weekend also saw Simon Wardhaugh (Boise State) return to form after a poor opener with a personal best on Friday. Overall, the men's action is heating up quickly. Already this season, 13 throwers have already surpassed 65 meters by my count. During the entire outdoor season last year, only 17 throwers did so. The women are also making things interesting. Among other performances Sarah Stevens (Arizona State) threw a new personal best and school record over the weekend.

Results for the Weekend of 4/05/08
This weekend saw many big meets and many big marks as more of the top throwers started their season. Jake Dunkleberger (Auburn) won the Tiger Classic with toss of 71.42m (234-04), little more than a foot off the personal best he set at last year's NCAA Championships. Matej Muza (Virginia Tech) started the season on a strong note with three foot personal best at the Duke Invitational. Boldi Kocsor (UCLA) continued a consistent start to his season with a win over freshman Walter Henning (North Carolina) at the Texas Relays. Steffan Nerdal (Memphis), Chris Rohr (Missouri), Jaroslaw Zakrzewski (Kent State) all posted personal bests while many others improved their season bests.
On the women's side, Brittany Riley (Southern Illinois) had the top mark of the weekend for the second straigh week. As with the men, many top women opened up their seasons this weekend. Sarah Stevens (Arizona State) won the Jim Click Shootout in good form, while newcomer Dorotea Habazin (Virginia Tech) posted a great mark of 64.60m (211-11). Kristen Callan (Virginia Tech) redshirted last year, but wasted no time and threw a personal best in her first competition back in a uniform.
In some more interesting results, Simon Wardhaugh (Boise State) struggled in his season debut with a throw of just 59.91m (196-07) at the All Idaho Collegiate Cup. Also, after opening the season strong, Laci Heller (Kansas State) managed only 56.86m (186-06) this past weekend at the Emporia Sate Relays.

Brittany Riley (Southern Illinois) started off her season on a good note with a toss of 68.79m (225-08) over the weekend. While that only ranks her second in the NCAA behind Eva Orban (USC), she did not throw that far until mid-April last season. Jessica Pressley (Arizona State) threw a personal best over the weekend. Loren Groves (Kansas State) improved a lot over the season and also nearly threw a personal best. Ozie Okolie (Texas Tech) also threw a personal best.
On the men's side, Boldi Koczor (UCLA) debuted with a one-meter personal best over the weekend of 67.82m (222-06). He followed it up the next day with another toss of 66.23m (217-03).

Results for the Weekend of 3/15/08 (Outdoor)
While most of the top athletes were competing at the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend, some athletes got a head start to the outdoor season. After nearly missing a personal best last weekend, Eva Orban (USC) set one this weekend at the Northridge Relays. She broke 70 meters for the first time and looks to be saying that Brittany Riley will not dominate the outdoor season as much as she dominated the indoor season. On the men's side, 2007 NCAA qualifier Jarrod Stevens (Boise State) opened his season at 64.88m (212-10).

Meanwhile ... on the west coast
We like to start the outdoor season a little earlier on the west coast. Among the outdoor meets this past weekend, Eva Orban of USC threw 69.04m (226-06) to win the Ben Brown Invitational hosted by Cal State-Fullerton. Orban, the bronze medalist at last year's NCAA outdoor championships, was only inches off of her personal best of 69.10m set in 2006. She was also well ahead last year's season best of 66.98m.

Results for the Weekend of 3/08/08
Several athletes made the most of the last chance to qualify for the NCAA indoor championships. Dave Ebersole (Ohio State) came into the weekend on the bubble and improved slightly. The most improvements this weekend were at the Virginia Tech last chance meet. Kristen Callan (Virginia Tech) and Jere' Summers (Louisville) sat 14th and 15th on the national list entering the weekend. After two foot improvements by both of them, they now are inside the top ten and have secured a spot at nationals. Also at that meet, Andy Fryman (Kentucky) and Sharneise Williams (Florida) improved their personal bests and both now have a good chance of qualifying for nationals.
At the Iowa State last chance meet, Tyler Dailey (Missouri) imprved nearly two feet to help his chances of making the NCAA Championshpis. Astin Steward (Purdue) and Laci Heller (Kansas State) also competed, but have already secured themselves a spot at nationals.
