NCAA Championships: Eight Athletes Top 70 Feet
An amazing eight athletes topped 70 feet in the men's final on Saturday afternoon. Favorite Egor Agafonov (Kansas) (pictured to the right; photo by Kirby Lee) led the competition throughout and finished with a fifth round effort of 22.71m (74-06.25). Walter Henning (North Carolina) sat in second, until Jake Dunkleberger passed him in the finals. Jon Pullum (Purdue) had the same mark as henning, but had to settle for fourth. Overall, five of the top seven throwers threw personal bests. While not throwing personal bests, both Agafonov and Dunkleberger threw season bests. NCAA Championships: Riley Dominates Again
If you thought it was impressive when Brittany Riley (Southern Illinois) (pictured to the right; photo by Kirby Lee) won by nearly ten feet at last year's NCAA Indoor Championships, you should have seen today's competition. Riley led from start to finish and entering the final round, she had an amazing twelve foot lead. She finished the competition with a best toss of 25.34m (83-01.75). That throw is a one-meter season best and was within a foot of the world record she set at last year's NCAA championships.
The battle for second place, however, was very close. Entering the final round, Jessica Pressley (Arizona State) led Astin Steward by just four inches. Pressley had many personal bests in the competition and improved in the final round to throw 22.04m (72-03.75). Despite the foul trouble, Veronica Jatsek (Ohio State) was the fourth athlete to break 70 feet at the meet.

NCAA Division I Indoor Championships - Declarations
For the first tiem that I can remember, more men than women will be competing in the weight throw at this year's NCAA Championships. Last year, as was the case this year, 16 women qualified. However, only 15 men qualified last year versus 17 this year. The men's weight throw is tied with the triple just for the most entrants in this year's meet.
