NCAA Championships: West Region Preview (Updated)
Up until the Pac-10 Championships, Eva Orban (USC) looked like the favorite not only to win the West Region, but also to win the NCAA Championships. However, Orban had an off day and Sarah Stevens (Arizona State) captured the title. Stevens' teammates Jessica Pressley and Tai Battle have both demonstrated they can consistently throw over 200 feet. While Pressley has yet to replicate her season best toss of 68.31m, she did post a solid mark of 63.86m at last weekend's Tucson Elite Throwers Classic. McKenzie Garberg (Washington State) and Sharon Ayala (Fresno State) will likely battle it out for the fifth spot. Garberg has thrown very well lately, but Ayala has been consistent all season.
The West Region men's competition is one of the hardest to handicap. Simon Wardhaugh (Boise State), Boldizsar Kocsor (UCLA), and Jarrod Stevens (Boise State) haev all been quite consistent this season and should automatic bids. The remaining four spots will be up for grabs. Colin Veldman (Oregon) has been hit or miss. He threw great when it counted at the Oregon/UCLA dual meet and the Pac-10 Championships, but has also thrown less than 200 feet on a few occasions this season. Greg Watson (Southern Utah) had a big personal best a few weeks ago, but was under that at his conference championships. Matt Wauters (Idaho) has slowely recovered from an early season ankle injury and will likely get an automatic big along with teammate Marcus Mattox (Idaho). Zack Midles (Washington), despite only having the seventh best mark, has been just as consistent as the other throwers and proved that with a third place finish at the Pac 10 Championships. I wouldn't be surprised if he also got an automatic bid. Jordan Stray (Oregon) will also be in the mix for what should shake out to be a great competition.

No love for BSU.
They had a mistake on the declaration list, we will be competing at the regionals. So hopefully we can challenge the field for some top 5 placings!
