NCAA Championships: Mideast Region Preview

28 May 2008 at 20:06 - 1 comments - link
Cory Martin (Auburn) is undefeated this season and has proved he can beat the defending champion Jake Dunkleberger (Auburn).  However, we must remember that  Martin consistently beat Dunkleberger last season right up until Dunkleberger won the NCAA title.  Either way, both throwers will likely take the top two spots.  The other three automatic bids are up for grabs.  Steffen Nerdal (Memphis) has been the most consistent among the remaining throwers, but only threw 64.54m last weekend at the Tucson Elite Throwers Classic.  Rabun Fox (LSU), Jason Morris (Missouri), and Chris Rohr (Missouri) will also be among the favorites to get an automatic bid.

There is no doubt that Brittany Riley (Southern Illinois) will be the women's favorite.  Stevie Large (Akron) and Veronica Jatsek (Ohio State) have been the most consistent among the remaining throwers and should also lock up automatic bids.  Jere' Summers (Louisville) has not throw as far lately, but her teammate ZeNai Savage has come on strong as has Valentine Srsa (Auburn).
