NCAA Championships: D2 Results
This season has been a very competitive season for D2 men. Entering the competition, Robert Klenk (Ashland) led the nation with a personal best of nearly 67 meters. Hot on his tracks was Dan Raithel (Central Missouri). Both, however, struggled to start the competition on Friday. Entering finals, Raithel led with a best of 62.07 meters. Things picked up in the fifth roung when Klenk tossed 64 meters for the lead. Raithel then responded with a new personal best mark of 66.95m (219-08). Klenk improved in the final round, but it was not enough to take the title away from Raithel. Aaron Falk (Hillsdale) also threw a personal best in the final round to move from eigth to third place.
The women's competition was just as competitive. Jessice Selby-Tallman (Missouri Souther) took the early lead in the first round, but heading into finals, Audrey Oswald (Humboldt State) was leading with Selby-Tallman and Michelle Stark (Ashland) all within one foot of each other. Oswald extended her lead in the finals before Selby-Tallman unleashed a near personal best throw in the final round to take the lead. Oswald also improved on her last throw, but had to settle for second place.
