Loren Groves in the spotlight
Kansas State junior Loren Groves has been getting some headlines over the past week. She was the feature of two columns last week: an article in the Kansas City Star and an interview in the Topeka Capital-Journal. She was also the subject of a short article in the the Kansas State Collegian two weeks ago after she broke the school record. Groves has had a great season after redshirting last year. She currently has the fifthe best mark of the nation and also has a top ten mark in the discus. This month she has already broken the Kansas State school record in the hammer and won a Big 12 title. As she looks towards the end of the season, she has told the Topeka Capital-Journal her goals:
I want to go to regionals and try to make nationals. It'd be awesome to be an All-American in hammer because I haven't accomplished that yet. I found out I'm in 12th-post collegiately in the hammer now, so I'm hoping that's a good enough mark to get into the Olympic trials in July. That would be one of my biggest goals I've ever accomplished. Ever since I was a little girl I've always wanted to be in the Olympics. Going to the trials would be a big step.
