Final DII Declarations List
The NCAA DII Championships are not for another week, but the NCAA released the final list of declared athletes today. Of the declared athletes, only 13 or 14 are typically invited to attend the championships. While I have not covered DII that much this season, Ashland University continues to its dominance. Robert Klenk (Ashland) leads the division by nearly two meters. The next five athletes, however, sit within one foot of each other. Freshman Tara Cooper (Ashland) has pulled away from the women's field and threw 20 meters for the first time last weekend.
Compared with last year's declarations, the men's field has not really improved. The same number of men met the provisional qualifying mark each season and the tenth best mark has remained exactly the same. On the women's side, there has been a slight improvement with three more athletes meeting the provisional qualifying and a one foot improvement in the tenth best mark.
