Track and Field News Picks Indoor Favorites
The February edition of Track and Field News includes the publication's annual collegiate preview. In addition to listing the top 15 returners in each event, they also pick their favorite to win each event. Indoors they picked Cory Martin (Auburn) and Brittany Riley (Southern Illinois). Few would argue with that choosing Riley as the favorite. However, Cory Martin has exhausted his indoor eligibility and is probably not the wise man's choice for an indoor champion.
Outdoors, their picks were defending champions Jake Dunkleberger (Auburn) and Brittany Riley (Southern Illinois). One person not included on the list of top returners is Matt Wauters (Idaho). His best hammer mark of 65.22m (213-11) was thrown last season while redshirting. That mark would have been the twelth best returning mark. On the women's side, the left out a few redshirts from last season including Kristen Callan (Virginia Tech) and Loren Groves (Kansas State). While Callan did not improve her personal best while redshirting, she came close with a throw of 62.68m (205-07). Groves improves to 63.75m (209-01).
