Results for the Weekend of 1/26/08
Freshman sensation Walter Henning of North Carolina had originally planned to redshirt the season. However, he competed earlier this season in the shot put and debuted in the hammer throw at this weekend's Penn State National Invitational. He showed he hadn't skipped a beat since his record setting season last year at St. Anthony's High School in New York. His first throw this weekend eclipsed 70-feet and moved him into the national lead as just a true freshman. Egor Agafonov, the men's pre-season favorite, has yet to compete this season.
Brittany Riley continued to unleash some long throws, but was slightly off form this weekend. Riley won the Carle/Health Alliance Classic at 23.14m (75-11), but series was inconsistent and included throws of 19.81m and 21.91m. Stevi Large of Akron also improved over the weekend and approached the 70-foot barrier.
