Practice??? We talking practice.
Ooh lawd let me tell you all that I got to be the first athlete that hates his sport with a passion...no not really, but geez practice has gotten outta control.
We are in our second phase of fall training and the reps has increased and the speed has gotten a lot faster, but if you know me and how I train.....I be in the back chilling with the ducks...LOL!!!!
Phase two of our fall training is in effect. During this time of our fall training, we start adding some speed stuff into our weekly workouts. Now we have not touched blocks as of yet, but we will do our short speed stuff out of a three point stance. The distance never goes passed 80m and the shortest distance ran is 30m. Its good to knock the rust off. Now many might be saying to themself "Why are they doing speedwork now?" Well boys and girls, if you are a sprinter, then you got to practice the art of sprinting right??? Right!!! A plus for you Leeza..lol it always good to start working on speed after your first six weeks, some start earlier than that. I know teams that don't start until two weeks before the indoor season starts, but hey to each is own.
Monday workout: 3x30 3x60 2x80m. Then we had stadiums...three quarters of the staduim.
Tuesday workout: I had what I call "you must be out ya damn mind" workout. 1x500 2x300 4x200. Child let me tell you, that 500m.....you would figure it would hurt the most right? NOPE!!! Them darn 200m burns the bootycheeks to the bone!!! We only had like 2 minute rest too and that didn't make it any better, plus we in altitude too!!!
Wednesday workout: "Active recovery" Hurdle mobility, drills (sprint drills) and a sit up routine. So for those that don't know, this is my day to work the team out...and I sure did Hurdle work is a very important part of our training, especially in my training logs. If done right, it works the hip area and get it strong. Sometimes, running and lifting needs another compliment thats not too taxing on the body, not to mention, the body needs a break from the pounding.
Thursday workout: Hills 200m hills 6x200 4x150 speed accels on flat surface on the grass. Hill workout has its moments...it could suck, or it could be a bright and sunny day and feel good....Not on this day...it sucked, but its something that has to be done. We don't time the hills runs, but I think I might throw a little twist on them next week. The 4x150 speed accels is just something I do and I had the 100m/200m runners do today. It nothing new, its set up to where the sprinters are getting faster at each mark, but at the same time working on being technically sound in their running while getting faster while also working being relax. Speed come out much better when the body is not straining to go fast. We got a saying "Strain on the toilet, not on the track" Lol!!!
Friday workout: We are still up in the air with Friday's workout. More than likely its going to be a monster circuit with 10x100m ending it off with 6x50m form runs bare foot. I like the tail end of this workout (yes its mind lol) To me, as a sprinter, you must work on form at all times during the fall. Once the season comes around, its hard to really focus in on these things, so as a coach, you must take advantage of this time of the year and use it to correct your athletes running errors. Now some of you are wondering "why bare foot?" Well Leeza (lol) from what I've learned from a very good coach, it helps reduce shin problems. I noticed that none of our runners have shin issues this fall and thats a plus, because we had some of our runners last season with some nasty shin issues, so we are doing whatever it takes to prevent this lingering issue that most teams go thru. So by being on the grass more and inside our indoor football practice area, it helps the athlete's lower legs and keeps them out of the training room driving the trainers crazy. (What's up Travis...Hi Becky...everyone say hi Amy....HI AMY!!! lol)
Well folks, thats all for now. I will be back on here giving you the updates on the time and life your truly. God bless and be safe.
P.S. I would like to give a shout out to my alma mater as they are ranked number 10 in cross country in the nation. Good luck to you all at the conference meet.
