Man...Where is Travis when you need him???

April 10, 2008 at 4:04 PM - 7 comments - link

Well folks, my season has been in a up and down state ever since I got hurt back in February. As soon of you all know, I had a nasty knee injury that to this very day I still don't know how it came about...thats the story of my running life. Anyway, that set me back big time, I couldn't compete at the US Indoor Meet due to the injury and deep down in my soul, I knew I could of made that team, my lil homeboy Mike who won it knew I could of made that team, but as we all know, sh*t happens for a reason, so I guess I shouldn't be second guessing the situation. I do know that if probably the greatest athletic trainer I've ever been around was where I am living at now, my butt would of been able to compete....Man, where is Travis when you need him???

The knee is still bothering me, but not as much as it was previously. I was able train at full speed after a month of being "careful"...I gotta start listening to my body, because for some odd reason, my pride and my ego sometimes won't allow me too, but I'm learning the hard way as usual....Man, where is Travis when you need him??? He was able to talk sense into me as well as getting my head together when I was gun shy to go out there and run or train. He was the best trainer my old school ever had...PERIOD!!! If we walked into the training and said "Yo Trav, my leg is faded" He knew what that meant, and him and RJ would go to work non stop even on Sundays to make sure we was getting taking care of, now thats trainer, thats a great person to have in the Athletic Training Program, a major university would be a damn fool not to hire him and make him the full time boss of Olympic Sports Athletic Training, and thats real!!!

So anyway, now we fast forward to the Texas Relays. I'm warming up, all is feeling well, Tyson, J.J. Johnson, Rae Edwards and myself is just getting ready to run anchor, we chatting it up, laughing, looking at the women in stands..lol!!! Ya know, just enjoying the meet within itself. So my team is in lane 8 and the gun goes off. First two leg especially my dude Tyree Gailes formerly of Texas Tech rolled out for our team, he did his thing on lead off. so we in the mix, not deep in the mix as Wallace Spearmon just destroyed the backstretch as well as Leroy Dixon. Mike Rodgers killed Aries Merritt on third leg but Merritt did his thing and I can't front on that, its just that Mike did the damn thing alot better..LMAO!!! So my team was like in 4th or 5th place, all I know was I was going to catch atleast one person cause I was feeling it. You know that feeling your legs get after a great warm-up? Yeah I knew it was on! So as my third leg hit the mark, I take off. I get the stick and not even 5 meters out of the zone, I strain my groin muscle!!! Are you friggin kidding me???? Man I was laying on the track in disbelief, I could not believe this sh*t just happened!!! There was no sign of a injury prior to me warming up, no problem in practice...NOTHING AT ALL!!! It just came outta nowhere!!! So now its back to square one, back to rehabbing another injury, back to sitting here thinking "why me?" I mean, all I want is one season without a injury, thats all I want!!! I need that intense rehab well no one will let me take it easy...Man, where is Travis when you need him???

Well, as of right now, Mt. Sac is out of the picture..as of now! I got a meet at Cal the week of Penn and Drake (I gotta do me and not worry about the relay thing for the moment) last season, it seemed to be a nice meet with Derrick Atkins running 9.98 and my dudes Jeff Laynes and Jason Heard going 10.1, plus they run prelims and finals, so I think that will be a good fit for me, besides, UNM is going and I don't have to pay..LMAO!!! j/k  Anywhoo, wish me luck in my rehab folks.

Shantia you a fool too, anytime I need a laugh, child you be coming throught!!! Hi Brianna..lol!! Rebecca..YESS!!!!! and you know what I'm talking about too..lol!!!

Hey this is trav, you know you can call me anytime for medical advice. Anyway was this the same leg as your knee pain? If you have a tight TFL and Piriformis on that leg causing your knee pain that can predispose the adductors to strain. Try doing some muscle energy for your groin by activating your glut med. and then light stretch of adductors. Do with a 5-10 second contraction of glut with 30 second hold of adductor stretch. Do three sets before doing your rehab. This will allow the adductors to relax during rehab so they will not be getting fatigued. Also, you need to do some release on it as well. Try passive release for a little while and maybe find someone to do ART on you. I know you know what all this means because I have gone through it with you before but if you have any questions don’t be afraid to ask. Good luck and Beck and I miss you.

Come back
