Blah, Blah....Rant, Rant!!!!
I'm touch on a few things and get some things off my chest so bear with me!
Sprinter vs. Distance Runner: Thanks Brianna, you got me really thinking about this as I would always go toe to toe with distance runners while I was in college, not so much know tho cause I know more. I remember a distance runner my Junior year came out his mouth and called the sprinters lasy, cocky, and full of hot air. He also said that we walk around like we the greatest thing god put in this sport, not to mention, he also said that our swagger was a cover up cause we didn't believe that we was that good, so we try to act like we we're!!! WHAT!!!!!!!
Ok so my response was....and I remember this like it was yesterday....I said to him, "First off, we do more than you at a meet (both relays and if its conference, two open races) let me see you a 10k then come back and give us a leg on the 4x400 or go over the long jump pit score points in that event....let me see you run rounds, you only got one race to run in....let me see you run in 80 degree temperture without catching a heat stroke!" I contunied, "We the first ones at the track and the last ones to leave...we lift, yall don't....we go to nationals, yall don't....we scored most of the points, and yall did nothing but complain that it was to hot to perform, so that's why you stopped in the middle of the race!" To end it all without him runing back to the coaches saying that the sprinters was picking on him, I ended the argument on this note..."How the hell can yall run all year, have a cross country season, have almost two months to prepare for the indoor season, and NOT BE IN SHAPE TO COMPETE IN THE FIRST THREE INDOOR MEETS???" He gave me this look, and all he could say was "well my GPA is higher than yours!" LMAO!!! Ok he had me there, but I still had a very high GPA..LOL!!! My point was this to him, every aspect, every part of track and field is hard, everyone trains hard to the best of their abilities, I don't train any harder than the field eventers, they don't train any harder than the distance runners, so for you to come out your mouth and say that one side of the team doesn't work as hard as the other side of the program and your not around us on a regular basis is wrong and pure BS!!! We are teammates and that type of BS is not needed up in here, cause when its all said and done, if we win Big 12's, no one is going to say, "oh they won because this side of the team ran more or trained harder than the other side", they gonna say " they won as a complete team!" I think I made my point very clear!
The Death of the Dual Meet: You all wanna know why I think the dual meet system is dead??? 12.6 or is it .3??? lol!! Anyway, from what I see and from I've reseached so far, back in the day when the dual meet was the backbone meet for most programs, the men's team had a lot of athletic aid. Men teams was able to at least be competitive across the board in most of the events, so that made the Dual Meets appealling to the fan and the masses. Now, seeing that the Men's programs only have 12 scholarshps (not even gonna go there) the dual meets are not as exciting anymore...picture a LSU - Oregon Dual Meet!!!! LSU destroys Oregon in all sprint/jumps events, and Oregon just manhandles LSU from the 800m up and plus field events!!! No balance! So to me, the Dual Meet wouldn't be fun for the fan nor the athletes. If we as fans and major track junkies want the Dual Meets back, the NCAA or whoever is in charge got to increase the number of scholarships on the men's side...its a simple fix! Well, to me atleast! Just my opinion.
The Regional Meet and why it should be thrown on a busy highway and ran over by the biggest truck man ever created: The whole system is flawed..PERIOD!!! Its not fair to the athletes in my opinion...well not to the top athletes aleast...Yeah, yeah I know why it was put in place, in order to give the smaller schools with a lighter travel budgets a fighting chance to compete for a spot at the NCAA Meet...YAWN!!!! I'm sorry but please explain to me how this system helps the smaller schools or the athlete coming from the smaller budget schools???? Look, we all know that the sprinter from Northwest Maine State University is not going to beat the "Heat Seeking Missle Destroyer" known as Walter Dix in the 100m or 200m...sorry..NOT HAPPENING!!! We all know that the "Chainsaw with the broken switch" known as Baylor's 4x400 is not going to lose to a Southwest Alaska State team! So why on earth are these top teams and individuals competing at a meet that pretty much if they don't get hurt, is going to make it out of the region anyway???
You wanna make it fair to all? Here's a great idea for you all. Bring back the old standard, at the same time, keep the regional standard. Make a NCAA auto standard, so if a individual or relays team hit this mark, they now have a option to skip the Regional meet and go to Nationals or compete in the regional meet. They say its all about numbers right? Well this will allow those teams that don't stand a chance against the Texas A&M's, LSU's etc. a more fair of a chance to make it to NC's. It also gives the schools that are not as deep as a Baylor a chance to rest injured athletes instead of running them...now thats only if they hit the NCAA auto mark. The conference meets takes alot out of the runners, and for them to get thrown back into the fire like a regional meet just isn't fair...and I don't wanna here "well high scholers do it all the time" Well when we was in high school, we could run full speed with a hamstring pulls and didn't care..LOL, I mean who really got tired in high school??? LOL!!!
Thats all folks, next I'm a touch on why track and field is dying in the USA...and it has nothing to do with runners being doped up on that "Ben Johnson"!!!

glad i was able to light that fire under you. :)
can i just say that i am SOOO glad that i was done with college the year before regionals was implemented??!! (wow, i just dated myself) it's the stupidest thing ever. all you are doing is making athletes run at a highly competitive level for another week before nationals for a regional meet that nobody cares about or is interested in and making the National meet bigger than it needs to be. I believe that part of the draw was to allow more athletes the chance to participate. That's ridiculous to me...it's Nationals--not an all-comers meet. it shouldn't be about a high level of participation it should be about the highest level of competition.

I have to admit... i'm one of those people that NEVER would have made it to nationals without regionals. I always ran season PR's by seconds there. So i dont think we should completely get rid of it... but maybe do like indoors... where there are last chance meets (that could replace regionals) for those who dont auto-qualify... just a suggestion
