6.67 and 8.11
Well another week of competition has came and gone, and I'm couldn't be anymore happier than I am now for myself and my girl Shantia. As most of you know, she is the 2007 NCAA 60m hurdle champion, she was is one of college best athletes, as well as one of the USA's top runners. Last season me and her became real cool, we will talk sometimes, but mostly text (we are text message lovers..lol) before and after our competitions. During the off season, we would just text each other like all day and night, laughing at every and anything, and when I would travel to Atlanta, we would kick it and just bug out, its good to have someone like that in your world, thats my peeps right there !!!
She had her first race of the year at Clemson this weekend, she was all nervous and what not, but I would do my part as her friend and find ways to lift her confidence and just being another positive person in her circle. Many don't know, but she's been thru alot these last few months with a very serious injury that pretty much killed her outdoor season in 2007 and had her on the sidelines for a minute, but for her to come back the way she did and to open up at 8.11 in the hurdles is something next to amazing. I'm so happy for her...YOU GO GURL!!! LOL!!!
As for yours truly, I ran in Flagstaff this weekend..hehehe!! I must say, this mountain region is very relaxing. Beautiful scene all around, nice people, I really like it in this part of the U.S. Anyway, it was a low key meet with a few teams there, but good enough to get a good race in. In the prelims, I pretty must pulled a Asafa Powell and just shut it off like 6 to 9 meters out. Some of my friends was like "why didn't you run thru the line?" or "why you shut it off 10m out?" Well honestly, I have no clue why I did that, but I guess it was due to the fact that I had another round and I also had the race in hand, so no need to try to show out in the opening rounds.
So in the finals, I was a lil nervous (actually, I'm always nervous in any race) the Asian kid from Arizona was looking good in his warm ups and in his opening round. There was a few others that was looking like they were ready to make some noise as well. As we was called to the blocks, the guy in lane 3 raised his hand cause he wasn't feeling right in his blocks, and for some odd reason, the starter just went off on him....FOR WHAT??? The starter talking about "your holding up the meet, what do you think this is?" First off Mr. Starter Man, the isn't about you, its about the runners, and if he wants to raise his hand in order to adjust his blocks, SO WHAT!!! I think that was very unprofessional of him, and if he got somewhere he needs to be, then don't sign up to do the meet then!!!! He came at me crazy in the prelims as well, and those that know me know I put him in his place real quick! Anyway, as we got ready to run, this dude in the stands was talking mess to me....Yeah there were women all around his area, so he felt the need to show out in front of them. So I played it off like I didn't see nor heard him, but I did. See I had on these Nike shades that you could change out the lense from a outdoor lense, to a inside lense. So he was like "lane 4, there is no sun inside the building, take the glasses off, your not that fast!!!" Oh really??? Ok so, now the race is about to go off, we are in the blocks, I hear "set" and then the gun goes off. My start might of been the worse today...MAN!!! The first 5 meters was ugly! No real dig, no real power being pushed into the track, I don't know what was going on, but after 5 meters, it was pretty much a rap. I got to 30 meters and just started to lift, drive and pull away. After like 2 minutes, the time came up and it was 6.67!! I was like whoa!!!! I didn't expect that type of time due to the poor start, but I am very happy with that result.
So as I'm going back to get my stuff at the starting line, I look up into the stands to find the dude who wanted to be Chris Tucker for the day, and yes I clowned him!!! I asked him "do you want my autograph and my shades???" So them girls he was trying to impress so much and so hard pretty much turned around and started laughing in his face, and when I say they was LOUD...THEY WERE LOUD!!!!!! LMAO!!!! I know he felt low, I would of went in on him a lil more but I was like nah, he might get mad..lmao!!!
Anyway, thats all for now, all those athletes that are competing this season with a goal in mind, I wish you all the best of luck. Shout out to my girl Sani Roseby, she won the 60m up there today. Brianna, your alma mater was there and you wasn't!!!
