Step One....Freshman Yr!

September 8, 2006 at 1:21 PM - 1 comments - link

My Freshman yr in college was very successful in more ways than one! I was a 2 time all-amercan Indoors/Outdoors in the 4x400m relay, and an All-american in the 400m Hurdles, Indoor/Outdoor Freshman of the yr in the GLVC, earned a 4th place finish at the USA Junior National Championships, and broke 5 school records ( the indoor/oudoor 4x400m relay *of course with the help of fellow teammates Tai, Angel, Kimetha, and Val*, 400m dash indoors, 400m hur and the Heptathlon...

It was also successful because I qualified for the NCAA's in the 400m dash both indoor and outdoors but didnt make the finals either time (bummer!) indoors I was disqualified due to a collision with another athlete...

and outdoors I was the first athlete not to make it into the finals....at the usa meet I had to watch the 1st and 2nd place finishers win a trip to compete in Beijing, China, so I had to swallow the fact that had I taken advantage of my opportunity I could have earned one of those spots because I was ready to run those times...so how is this success? Ill tell you why its success, these events have made me STONGER & WISER...and im fully taking advantage of OPPORTUNITIES!!!!

HOWEVER, ALTHOUGH I DIDNT DO AS WELL AS I WANTED I DID GET TO MEET MY IDOL....SANYA RICHARDS!!!!

From what i can see you a TRUE success story.

Reading your blog really opened my eyes to see that when opportunities come, one should take them. Although you did not do ALL that you WANTED to do as far as nationals and China, you accomplished something so much more important: Self- assurance and confidence. Being able to pick yourself up when you fall is one of the hardest feats to achieve, but it is something that you have done so, seemingly, easy. By doing that you encouraged people like me to step up to all challanges and utilize the "opportunities" that present themselves. I thank you, and I'm glad that you took the time to show the rest of the track world what it means to be a true athlete: mentally and physically achieving and overcoming whatever obstacles that arise and taking advantage of opportunities. Im VERY proud of you, and I am so sure I am not the only one. God Bless. Love ya!
