Hi All, Deserea speaking!
I am very excited for the “opportunity” to represent both my school, team, coach and I on this website, especially since I have always read the journals and blogs before mine in admiration of their struggles and accomplishments and now someone has the “opportunity” to do the same to me!
You may be wondering why I put the word “opportunity” in quotations, so Ill tell you. When I was in high school I was not always the best and dreams of running college track where dwindling as fast as the next day could come. I almost gave up and could have potentially been left with a dream deferred, but I tried harder and put in more work then I ever thought was imaginable. Coach Beyers at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville took a chance on me and gave me an “opportunity” and that word means so much more to me because of him.
I seized my “opportunity” to do something great after I signed with the school in March of 2005. I went on to become the Indoor State Champion in both the 400m dash and 4x400m relay, with a runner up finish in the 55m dash. It did not end there, I was encouraged to push my limitations and went on to earn a runner-up finish at the outdoor state meet in both the 400m dash and 4x100m relay while anchoring a State Championship mile relay *not without my hs homies Seun, jasmine,and erica!*
I just wanted to show it doesn’t matter what happened in your past, your future could be bigger then you ever could of imagined….so seize all “opportunities”!
